Makvision Screen Jumps vertically
« on: December 20, 2006, 10:48:33 am »
I have this 29 inch makvision in a DDR game,.looks great,....colors are good,.......and just did a complete cap change except for the two big 400 V ones,......didn't have any on hand.

Anyway,......when the screen gets a bright flash or bright white change it jumps vertically slightly. I w2as able to get to settle a bit by adjusting the screen, brightness, and contrast,.........but still annoying,.......to me anyway,...kids in arcade don't notice :) .

Any ideas what it might be?

I could order up those big caps and change,........but just not completely convinced those are the issue,......cause all the ones i did change tested well.

Thnx Jim

It seems that when ever I get something goofy like that going on it flushes out to be a weak or bad sync connection.

I just had one that was irritating the crap out of me.  Odd, sudden, problems.  Tears, rolls, etc.  The sync on that particular game was to a 2 position IDC (insulation displacement connector) that did not fit the header on the monitor chassis just right.  When you looked down through the top of the connector you could see where the pin from the chassis was off to the side of the flat pin in the connector.   Move the game a little, from play, and they would loose what little contact they had.

I may have missed it, but please let me know the model number.

I am thinking it is either a standard res or switchable, but I will be able to tel by the model number.

The problem is that the original design had the vertical IC VCC coming from the flyback, the bright flash causes the high voltage to take a bit of a jump, so this in turn causes the VCC to the vertical to do the same.

I know all this because I was Makvsion's Chief Technical Officer until they took some extremely bad turns, honestly I am surprised they are still around.

Anyway all that does not matter.

If you post the model here, I will see it next time I login, faster response,

I'm wondering why he touched it in the first place.  In any case, thanks for the infor Rick, as I was considering a Mak.

He didn't state, but perhaps he capped it because of this issue, not as a 'future preventable measure'.
