Please Help Design My Marquee!!
« on: November 09, 2006, 07:22:05 pm »
I posted this at another forum (cheapassgamer) and I thought I might have better luck here -

OK, I think this is a pretty easy request but I really don’t know what’s involved. I need a marquee for an arcade cabinet.

Specs:

1. The marquee size is 18” x 6.5” so the design should be probably 18.5” x 7” so I can trim it down to fit once it is printed.

2. I need the file to be a vector file so I can resize it without any pixelation.

3. The image is going to be printed on some sort of vinyl/vellum so light can shine through it so any parts of the image that are white should actually be white and not clear.

Design:

1. The marquee should say “Bella’s Arcade” (without the quotes) in a somewhat large font - it doesn’t have to be centered, the “Bella” font can be larger than the “Arcade” font, the “Bella” font can be on top of the “Arcade” font, etc. - it’s totally up to you on how it looks.

2. The font should be very bubbly/girly/cartoony/cute - the arcade cabinet is for my little girl and will be painted pink. A black border around each letter of the font may or may not help it “pop” when it is lit.

3. As for the background, I was thinking of some big cartoony flowers that would fill up the entire space but I'm not totally sold on that idea. Again, whatever you decide, make it girly/cute - maybe in some anime style or something, I don’t know.

4. Overall, the thing should be bright and colorful but not too busy. The font should be the thing that sticks out the most and what your eye is drawn too immediately - definitely keep in mind that it should be girly.

If you are interested, please feel free to post your idea or concept here or ask any questions. If I like your design and decide to use it, I’ll send you any 2 games off of my tradelist (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18582) if you would like. It’s not much but at least it’s something! I'm probably a month or so away from placing the order for the marquee at mamemarquees so please take your time and think of something kick ass!

Thanks!!

I always thought that this was a nice "girly" marquee:

Two questions:

What age is she?

What colors are any other artwork for the cab?

I'm going to work up a few rough layouts anyway, but this info could be helpful.
Brevity is not my strong suit.

Oops... here's my project thread - it's going to be mostly pink and black but a splash of other colors for the marquee is defintiely welcome - green, purple, whatever's girly.  The sides are going to be a much later shade of pink than the t-molding, joystick and buttons pictured.  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=59828.0

Thanks a lot!!

EDIT: Some more detail...  The sides of the cabinet are going to be a light pink on the outside as well as the coin door wall in front and the back panel.  The action buttons, t-molding and balltop for the joystick are going to be the darker pink shown in my project thread.  The inside of the sides of the cabinet is going to be painted black and the bezel around the monitor will also be black (for now unless I can get some cool artwork for there too).  The control panel will be covered in black vinyl and the 4 admin buttons will also be black with dark pink labels (if I can get them printed that way).  I think that covers all of the surfaces...
