My first Jukebox Project
« on: January 30, 2007, 12:28:22 pm »
I decided that before I get into the crazy wiring that is a MAME Cabinet, I'd give a jukebox a shot...

It turned out to be more of a MP3 player...but meh...that's all I needed anyway.

Here are some construction shots (didnt take any pictures until after it was mostly constructed)

Once I get the computer parts installed and all that good stuff I'll post more.

The LCD that is going in the front is an 8" Touch Screen LCD that I got from eBay.
It has an 80GB hard drive, 2 powered computer speakers, possible cd-rom (if there's room) and the motherboard.
The motherboard is an EPIA MII-10000 1GHz board, with 512MB ram.

It will be powered by Freebox Jukebox Software

The box is 18.5" wide, 16" tall and 12" deep.

More pictures will be posted soon.

Good start so far. Cutting out nice circles can be such a pain. Your speaker grills will cover that though. Enjoy.

8" eh? What theme are you going to use? What I'm thinking is that 8" might be kind of hard to select music.

any of the themes have worked out great so far...

even -thatwhichwillnotbementioned- looked ok...but I'm probably going to go w/ one of the default ones (orange or green) w/ 4 or 6 covers per page.

they were not too small by any stretch of the imagination...just smaller than what you would see in a bar.

I use freebox now, on a 15" touchscreen. You may want to try it first. Once you select the album cover, it lists the song in a much smaller font...

You know what would look cool... is if it was wrapped it leather. I'm sure it wouldn't be too expensive and would look pretty neat. Just a suggestion!

ive got it up and running now (pictures coming tomorrow...lots of em)

it works great on the 8" screen  :D

i like the leather idea...i might look into that, as it would hide a LOT of my painting flaws  :(

assuming work isnt too busy in the morning, i should have some photos up pretty early...otherwise it will be after lunch.

thanks for the suggestions/comments...im really enjoying this box so far  :D

Vinal looks quite a bit similar and is cheaper.  You should be able to get some at a local fabric or craft store.  Just get a little batting to puff it out.

PICTURES!!!

Some of the components installed

I used adhesive pads to secure the speakers and power supply.

All components installed, with a glimpse at the power mod i did...

Closeup of the power mod I did...  One standard computer power cable to the wall, the rest is internal.

Computer up and running

Closeup of the screen.

Temporarily mounted the PC power switch on the back.

Yet another closeup of the power plug.

Still to do:

Research the Vinyl/Leather option
Create back panel
 - Mount PC power switch
 - Mount Power outlet
 - Mount Network port
 - Mount external speaker port (making it able to be used w/ a home stereo system)
Attach side handles for easier carrying

But so far, everything is working great!

If you made that case a little smaller, that would almost be portable.  A portable touchscreen juke would be fun.
Looks good.  I like the power mod.  I've recently pulled a couple of those connectors from dead powersupplies just for that reason.  Also, better picture than I was expecting in an 8" screen.
Keep the pics coming.

It's suprisingly light weight considering it's size....probably due to the 1/2" plywood (instead of the standard 3/4")

I'm definately putting handles on the sides though.
