« on: October 15, 2006, 07:06:57 pm »
Looking to get a new monitor for my Cruisin' World.

KLOV says that its Standard Res, a local op says its Medium res .. I have no clue... anyone know for sure???

Also where should I get a replacement monitor for the game .. Wells Gardner or is there another choice.

Definitely medium res.

KLOV says standard?  Ah well, they're known for errors.

I second that, they are EGA medium res.

Affirmative----this is a medium res game.

Good luck trying to get a medium res monitor. They are impossible to find right now.

Thanks fellas.  I thought so, and no it didn't surprise me for KLOV to be wrong.

Anyone know about these Maksonic EGA/CGA monitors I see on ebay for about $400??  Any good or am I wasting my time here as well.

You're thinking of Makvision. Don't waste your money.

Yup that's it.  Saw it on the bay last night.  I figured asking here was the best move.

Any other options from other vendors.  The same local op who told me the CW was med res (which he is now right obviously) says he can get a monitor that handles all resolutions like the Makvision for $600  :o but I have no clue if he is thinking of the same manufacturer or not.  Is anyone else offering something like this??

Thanks

Greg

Also, if you can't find a dedicated Medium Res monitor, you might want to try one of the Multisync Arcade Monitors from Betson or Billabs.  A bit expensive, but they will indeed support a 25Khz signal.

I thought about that as well since I am probably ordering one of those for my mame cabinet soon anyways.

This may be a dumb question though but will these work in a dedicated arcade machine, ie my Cruisin' World??

Yes they will work.  In fact, they were designed for this use.  Some of the newer ones may require a cable adapter if they only have a 15 pin VGA style connector, but they will work if you connect the RGB, Sync, and Ground pins to the appropriate wires in the cable up to the monitor from the Gameboard or JAMMA harness.   Some models of these may have an arcade monitors original connector on them too.

It'll work, but there may be mild sync issues.  Like slightly wavy lines in a part of the picture.

Betson has a list of incompatible games, give their service dept a call and get the list.

Go to the video game forum at www.vendoramusements.com (when the site comes back up---it's been having problems) and read the "Open Letter To Wells-Gardner". It'll open your eyes about 'digital' monitors and how bad the Wells ones are.

Ken,

I can't beleive that he says Makvision are much better than the current Wells Gardner models in terms of reliability.  I guess Wells is very bad.

He probably says that because Makvision is located in Canada just like he is. That way he doesn't have worry about importing duties and tarrifs from Wells-Gardner in the USA too. Did you have any trouble getting to the forums there at Vendor Amusements? I'm on dialup and for the past two weeks have not been able to access the forums there. Page tries to load at a very slow 40 to 150 bytes per second then times out with page not found.

Problem fixed on vendoramusements. The "nph-" had not been added to the main page for the link to the forums. I was not informed of a link change. All is well now.
