XP SP2 w/shell replacement
« on: October 30, 2006, 08:32:24 am »
I applied SP2.  Don't ask me why.  I just did.  The cabinet works all the same as posted in my original build script.  There are a few extra services I'll have to disable and whether I'll leave the firewall on or not is up for debate.  Anyway, MAMEWah is my shell.  When I drop out of the shell I'm left at a black screen with the mouse just as before.  I press CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the window with shutdown, lock, task manager options and I select task manager.  It opens just as before.  The interesting thing is when I choose File->Start New Task it AUTOMATICALLY opens a command prompt rather than letting me type something in a dialog box.

The kicker is that you can't type in the command prompt either.  This has to be a security "feature," but I can't figure out how/where to change it.

My cab, before I blew the OS away yesterday, was also running XP SP2, and I didn't have that problem. Just tried it on my work PC as well; same thing.

Are you logging on as a local administrator or a restricted user? That may have something to do with it.  :dunno

If you hold down the ALT key when selecting "New Task" from Task Manager it will open the Command Prompt. Seems you may have the ALT key stuck or something?

I guess anything is possible, but I did remap my entire MAME key config such that I'm not using any of the "special" keys (CTRL, ALT, etc.)

I use sp2 and don't have this issue (no command prompt - just a run dialog box).

Is this a normal sp2 installation, or is it customised?
