Is anyone else watching Jericho?
« on: October 13, 2006, 04:09:52 pm »
I've been watching Jericho this season, and I think it is the best new show of the season. I've watched Heroes, but I'm not sold on it.

Anyways, just wandering if anyone else is watching it. If you want to, they have all the episodes commerical free on their cbs website (there are supposed to be commercials, but they don't work  ;D)

Also, if anyone else has anything to say about other new shows in this thread, feel free!

I've been watching both Jerico and Heroes, and both are pretty good, not great, but good.  Heroes definately has a lot of potential, but it may take a while to get there.  Another new show thats pretty good is Shark, which is surprising because I don't like most lawyer shows.

Watched the first episode of Jericho and could barely get through it.

Hmmm . . . I've never seen that happen before, LOL.  My post was quite a bit longer than that.  I distinctly remember writing at least one complete sentence   ;D

Not according to that fragment up there. :)

I missed the first two episodes of each of those shows, but started watching both.  I was watching Vanished, but have a feeling that'll be axed, plus they supposedly killed off the lead investigator, and I kinda thought he fit the role.  So I started on Heroes.

Watching 1 vs 100 right now on NBC.  I love the premise.  14 or so people of 63 didn't know what Steve Carrell yelled as he got waxed in 40 Year Old Virgin.

No lawyer show can beat the entertainment value of Boston Legal. :D

I watched the first episode of Vanished and thought it sucked.  The good news about the show Heroes is that they've already decided to finish the season, which means it won't get cancelled half way through like so many other shows I enjoy.

And Shmokes, were you going to say something about the show Carnivale?  That was a good (although disturbing) show, too bad it only went a couple seasons.

I've been watching Heroes and am intrigued, but am going to jump ship as soon as it becomes a soap opera, and I have a bad feeling it's only an episode or two away from that stage.  I don't want it to happen, but  :dunno

I really liked Carnivale for the first season or so, but got way too abstract and wierd after a while.

Yeah.  Discovered Carnivale after it had already been axed after the 2nd season, when I saw a preview for it at the beginning of a Six Feet Under DVD.  It looked great so I ordered the first season on Netflix.  It's easily one of the best shows ever, but I can see why it would get axed.  It's serialized and every episode is extremely important.  If you just sat down and watched a random episode well into the first season or anywhere in the second season you would be completely lost.  But I really recommend picking it up on DVD.

I also had a friend loan me seasons 1 & 2 of Arrested Development recently.  Holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---!.  Funniest show since Seinfeld hands down.  If you have even the remotest interest in smiling and laughing you absolutely need to start watching this show.  I've heard that season 3 isn't nearly as good, but can't vouch for that.

I just told my wife that we should look at renting/buying Arrested Development.  Will definitely have to give it a try.

We've been watching The Nine - pretty good so far.  And just happened to catch 1 vs. 100 the other night - very good concept that will play well for a nighttime primetime game show.  Jericho = snoozeville for us also.

I just don't understand the hype for that show.  On paper, it even sounds sucky.

Arrested Development was hilarious.  Missed most of season 3 because I knew it'd be axed, though.  That and I think it went up against something else I liked.

I'm hoping 1v100 utilizes a bit more than pop culture.  Seems to be the easiest game show to hit the 6 figure mark, and isn't based on much luck at all, besides what the audience misses.

I watched the first episode of that. I bet the Jeopardy guy wishes he never signed up. He looks like a cross between bored and pissed eveytime the camera was on him. It is the first gameshow I've ever seen where I knew ALL the answers right away. Embarrassingly easy questions.

For those of you who have given up, Heroes seems to be getting better now. Last night was pretty good, and they started showing off their powers a little more. I could actually half-way stand the whiny younger brother who thinks he can fly.

I tried to watch Jericho, but without watching it, since then most of the show was already written in the first episode. You do not just introduce every important in the first hour of the show. Let it unfold. (plus I will admit, all this north Korea crap has me a little bothered about nukes right now. I would rather put off the nuclear Holocaust until I have to).

Cop, lawyer, forensic, and lewd sitcom shows has really made me loose most interest in TV. Reality television has made me loose the rest. It all seems to be formula. Just get new actors and change the names up a little and perhaps move the set 2 blocks further down the street in LA and the next show it born. I love it when a show comes along and really breaks ground on the TV scene.

Movies have sucked for years. Most of the time, now unless the movie is directed by someone I look up to or is getting just raving reviews, I wait for DVD. Quite frankly, I would rather watch the movie at home anyway. The sound is far better than in the theater and I do not have to listen to the drunk jerks 2 rows back burping and farting to crack each other up, in a movie that actually deserves attention (happened during Life is Beautiful).

With TV we do not get reviews of upcoming episodes. So if a show sucks early on, yeah perhaps it could get better, but I look at the pilot as the mindset of the producers, director, and writers. If it is not well defined, I have better things to do. Life is too short to be lost on staring at a box. There is nothing to show for it at the end of my life.

Heroes has got me intrigued. I watched the first episode and saw so much potential. It does have a ring of XMen, but you know, for prime time TV, I am cool with that. It is a nice change of flavor. I like that the charactors seem to know who they "are" at this stage in the show. I am not saying that they are aware of their powers, I am saying they seem to be well developed charactors. I think that the diversity amongst the characters is great. I think it is shot well and the post is awesome. The stories seem to be deep. There is a lot of hidden added details in the backgrounds. Little happenings that wind up being little clues. Now there are some very obvious stuff that they stuff in your face to make you think it is deep too, but I am a sucker for the finer details. I think Hiro is a great charactor. He is my favorite so far. Although the herion addict artist is kinda cool too. Although, they are being kind as to what a herion addict actually looks like and how they live. It is a gross lifestyle. (My best friend in college had some people that lived below him that were into all that. creepy stuff)

Anyway,  right now, I am giving my attention to Heroes, Lost, Boston Legal (Denny Crane!), and BattleStar Galactic.
I used to be into survivor, but I think I am done with it. My wife watches it, I listen to it in the background, while learning to program VB, the the programming usually wins. Life is very busy as of late. I want TV that IS an escape for a couple of hours.
