Nintendo Vs. Cocktail Value? Worth it?
« on: October 04, 2006, 02:41:50 pm »
Have a guy locally trying to unload a couple of PARTIAL Nintendo Vs cocktails..  I HAVE NOT seen these in person, but here's his description:

He describes both as 'decent condition'...

Cocktail 1:
  - Has both monitors
  - Has controls
  - NO power supply and NO pcb

Cocktail 2:
  - Has ONE monitor
  - Has a baseball game installed (I _think_ RBI Baseball)
  - Has both sets of controls
  - Has power supply
  - Game works but has 'lines' running through the game

He wants $175 for the pair.  I think I could talk him down to $150.  Is this a good deal?  It appears as if I could get at least one fully working game going..

I'm actually not the one who would pick these up.  My dad would (in another city)..  I'd tell him to 'walk' if they were junk.  And he would  :)

I know it's hard to say without pics and a constant stream of details..  But I'm looking at options..  :)  Thoughts?

Thanx!!

My opinion is that they're god-awful ugly. I'd probably buy one anyway if it were cheap enough, but I seriously doubt I'd buy two.  No idea what they're worth, but common sense tells me that they can't be worth much since they seem to come up for sale so often.

Be careful of Nintendo joysticks. They are made poorly and will break often.  ;)

That ought to get this conversation rolling...

Too similar to the NES to really be worth much... but $150 isn't much when you're talking about that much hardware.  A decent price.

It's not RBI Baseball.  It's Baseball (the Nintendo first party version).

I guess I should also mention..  I have the opportunity to buy them separately, as well:

Cocktail 1: $75
Cocktail 2: $100

:)

Thnx!

Buy cocktail 1.  Remove monitors, toss the rest in a dumpster.

Do not buy cocktail 2.

Really?  Why no Vs love??  :)

I'm _considering_ getting one and using half as a true Vs and putting an NES emulator on the other half...

Seriously, though, why not like them?  The look?  The fact it's basically just arcade-ized NES?  Hey, if an NES had a coin slot, I'd add it to my gameroom  :)

Thnx for the input, though..  Unfortunately, I'd not buy it just to scavenge the monitors  :(

The fact that it IS just an NES, on a timer, with short games.  You could use your gameroom space so much better.

I don't think I'd go so far as to throw away the rest, but I agree with Chad in that $75 for a pair of arcade monitors is a good deal. Assuming they work of course.

Actually the games are not on a timer. You are thinking of the Playchoice 10. They are rediculously large though and run on the 100 volt system that the other V cabs use. The monitors are pretty much only good in another Vs cab that hasn't been converted over to 110v.

I like mine becuase not very many people have played the arcade verion of SMB. It's different than the NES version. It always throws them off a bit.

I think the one working would be worth $100 to sell it. So give him $75

Both of them, about $100 - $150

The lines in the monitor are probably due to cap failures in the monitor.  Not a biggie.

I don't think vs cabs used 2 monitors.  The ones I have are like $80-$150 for a standup IF it's in good shape. Boards are cheap for them.

So do some of the uprights:

The KLOV link also has a link to the cab showing RBI Baseball in the header..  So it _could_ be..?

I have an upright Dual Vs cab with RBI Baseball and Dr Mario, so yes, it is available.  I have had a red tent cocktail too, which I liked and my wife hated (see a really old thread).  She says they look like a barbeque pit....I agree.  I have another one now in staorge with the rest of my games for sale.

Now with that said, that's not a bad price for the pair.  You can run a Vs system off a regualr switcher (both of mine do), and you can put in a 100V iso trans for the monitor.  They're fun little cabs to have, even if they are goofy looking.

I have seen a couple that were JAMMAtized and converted into nifty 4-player games like Simpsons and TMNT as well.  2 players per side with their own monitors is interesting.

Aren't the nintendo style buttons/button holders worth money?  They are kind of hard to find aren't they?  The few places i've seen selling them want like 5 bucks for one.  You could probably ebay the boards and at least get your money back i would think....

Yeah, unfortunately I've not SEEN the games, so can't comment on how 'original' the controls are..  I need to call the guy one more time.  If he'll take my price, I think I'm gonna take 'em..

Besides, I think my parents my get them for me for my birthday  :D

Thanx, all!
