WG 7000 Blank Green Screen
« on: September 03, 2006, 05:40:13 pm »
First post here (hi!).

I have a WG 7XXX series that only displays green after booting up.

On the cabinet it's hooked up to, I can play blind. On its original cabinet, I cannot play blind.

Another thing about it, is when I turn it on, half the time it'll spark from the black thing on the back, under a bunch of wires (see photo below).

I really have no clue about this stuff, so any help in fixing the problem is appreciated.

Flyback transformer, eh? Where would be a good place to get one?

it looks like you have more than one issue with this monitor, first i would check for bad solder joints around the flyback transformer(the big black thing),if the spark comes from the body of the flyback then you should replace it or use some sort of sealant to prevent the arc like araldite, then i would check the green drive transistor on the neck card

check the green drive transistor on the neck card, short each transistor and see if the color changes if you get the color at Transistor  Red,Green, Blue the CRT maybe bad also check the small transistor that corespond with the green driver.

Just a thought.
I am alway willing to learn, so please share the knowledge.

Ok, how would I go about shorting the transistors? I'm a total n00b with this kinda stuff.

And grantspain, I'm not going to worry about the flyback for now, as it has ceased arcing for whatever reason. I'll look into that sealant you suggested once I get this thing actually working.

You better worry about that flyback, as if it *dies* completely you'll not have a monitor, but a large lead weight.

Since it's sparking, the smart thing would be to replace it altogether.

Which I'll do once I can find a place that sells them. In the 5 years I've been dicking around with the monitor, it hasn't died. I used to infrequently turn it on and stare at it then turn it off and go do something else.

Now I have this monitor out, dusted it off, and have been running it daily without sparking.
