PC - Sanyo 20EZV EDIT: Is the Video Amp cable necessary?
« on: August 17, 2006, 01:29:45 pm »
Hello all, not sure if this should be in monitors or in software but what would I need to run MAME on a PC and display it in my donkey kong cab with a Sanyo 20EZV?

Would the Ultimarc ArcadeVGA be enough or would I also need something else?

http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainf.html

I know this has been addressed before but I am wondering about this particular monitor.  Isn't something inverted on the Sanyo monitor.

The Ultimarc ArcadeVGA video card is the asiest and most assured way to interface with any 15khz arcade monitor.

As for the Sanyo 20EZ inversion issue...... you simply need to use the small inversion board that should already be on the monitor and use the INVERT OUT connector for the ribbon cable going to the chassis.
And you will also need to make sure it has the power lead or it will not funtion at all for the INVERT OUT.

By the way.... the inversion only effects the colors not the actual functionality of the monitor. In other words, you can hook up to it and get a good picture, but you will need the inversion board to correct the colors.

these moniotrs have an inverted colour signal input but you should be able to bypass the inverter board

Mmmmm.... sorta ....
The Nintendo games themselves have the inverted color signal ouput.
The 20EZ chassis input was actually factory modified to accept those Nintendo signals.
(so you're right there)

The inverter board is there so that it can accept all other games. Put it back to normal. (so you actually want to use it, not bypass it)

You can actually get the parts and put them back on the chassis itself and then no longer need the inverter board for regular games, but then it will not work with Nintendo games at all. (so I never reccomend doing that)

The inverter board while being used for a Nintendo game IS actually being bypassed aside from the three color pots.
The electronics portion of the inverter board is only functioning when used in the INVERT OUT selection. (regular games)

just ignore me

Nah...otherwise I may never learn anything.  ;)

So Lutus.... do you have the inverter board? And does it have the single red power lead coming from the main chassis?

I ask because I've seen combinations that are missing one or the other or sometimes both , etc.
(specifically in Nintendo cabs because they don't need any of that)

Ok, sorry it took so long.

I looked in my cabinet and I do not have the small invertor board.  What does this mean in terms of being able to hook my PC to the Sanyo monitor.  Would I use the ArcadeVGA through this....

That little board is used to convert a Nintendo game board color signal into a standard color signal for any standard monitor.

Look on ebay for the right inverter board.... Sanyo...they pop up there once in awhile.

Not at all!!

I also picked up a dig dug machine this morning.  The guy says the monitor doesn't work.  I suspect caps and solder joints.  Don't have time to look it this weekend though

Once I get this inverter installed the only other piece of equipment I need is the ArcadeVGA card.

Will I need the "Video Amplifier Cable"?

I'm working with one of these too. 16v? Cool, I was doing to searching trying to find that out. Does +/- make any difference with the 2 16v leads?

Well.... it should be +16v DC ....  if that's what you mean. (?)

Or are you asking about the 2 different 16v pins?
If that's the case... then no, it doesn't matter which one you go to, I was just pointing out that they both go to the same place for the 16v. Just pick one.
(and 12vDC will allow it to function if you have a switching power supply and just want to tap off of it instead of poking around for the 16v)

And you don't really even need the ground at all. It will ground through the video signal wiring.

So in all essence... you should have ONE power wire going to the inverter board.

So, will I need the "video amplifier cable" from Ultimarc as well or will the ArcadeVGA through the inverter board be sufficient?

If I understand it all correctly.... all you will need is the ArcadeVGA and the breakout cable. (or just make the cable yourself)
It is suppose to be ready to go and hook straight up and run.
In other words, it should already put out the proper signal voltage that the standard arcade monitors require.

The video amplifier is more for when you are using a standard PC video card and are trying to drive the arcade monitor by just adjusting the resolution. (if your card is even capable that is) The PC video signal voltage is weak, so usually is doesn't have enough to properly drive the siganl, therefore needing the video amp.

You can always drop Andy a note and specifically ask. He's real good about answering questions. He might be a little slow or busy, but he'll defineately answer.

I just received word from Andy and he said that almost all Japanese monitors require the amp.  Do I still need it in conjuction with the inverter board?

Guess it would be better to have it on hand rather than find out you need it and have to wait again for it.

Really hard to say without knowing exactly what the ArcadeVGA signal voltage is and what the monitor "requires".

Well, if I did need it and didn't order it... would'nt the monitor output just be "dim" but still workable, thus confirming whether I need it or not.

I can only assume that it should at least function for you since it is coming from the ArcadeVGA. (possibly dim like you said)
I looked through the Sanyo manual and didn't see what it required.
So I guess you could just give it a shot and see what it looks like.
Might be surprised, might work out just fine without the videoamp.
