To Cap or Not To Cap
« on: December 14, 2006, 02:08:02 am »
OK,  I bought a monitor with a G07 chassis that has not had the sync mod,  and from the looks of things,  hasn't been capped in years.

It appears to operate exceptionally well as-is.   The color is vibrant,  it has good geometry... hell,  it has as good a picture as the G07 I re-capped!

What is the general rule of thumb in these situations...just re-cap it because "then you know" or just wait until the first signs of trouble,  then re-cap it?

Opinions?

Well if it's working fine and you're happy then leave it alone.

Perhaps because it is a later model (1985) compared to my other chassis (1981) is the reason I don' experience the infamous G07 curl?   Looking at it,  the sync mod has NOT been done,  but there's not a curl?

Later production run G07's have some diodes with plastic sleeving over them soldered to the foil side of the main board. These later runs do not seem to exhibit the famous curl and don't need the mod.
