im thinknig about getting an M3, but what would really sell me to it would be if its actually compatable with an actual GBA/SP/MICRO?

if not its not worth it and the DS-X is the way for me to go.

The M3 is compatible with the GBA and GBA SP.  I've used a CF M3 in both systems before and it works just like any other GBA cart.

I am not sure if it works in the micro as I've never tried, but seeing as it uses normal GBA games, I can't see why it wouldn't.

I'm just trying to figure out why when comparing the M3 and the DS-X, it matters if the M3 works with the GBA then.  I just didn't understand why the question was brought up.

I'm assuming that Otraotaku has either a GBA/SP/Micro as well as a DS, or he has friends/family that would benefit from the compatibility.  I don't see the point in bringing an SP around with me since I got my Lite, but some folks may want to be able to use the card in either system.

It's also good information for those who want a GBA card right now but think they may get a DS in the future.

The DS-X is only a DS emulator. It will not allow you to play GBA games. Since I don't own any GBA games and my only interest is to play DS games, the DS-X is the one for me.

According to information from the developers this will play native NDS roms without any patching required. Everything that is on the market currently requires you to update the firmware or patch the roms before you can play the new games. You shouldn't have to do that on the DS-X. You can also skin the menu.

If you want to play GBA games then get something else until someone releases a GBA emulator for the DS-X.

I have a M3 and have never used it for playing GBA games except to try it out.

But then again, I also have two other regular gba flash carts.

Actually, that is not economically priced.  You need to have flashme installed which means you will need a passme device and a gba adaptor.  Granted you could sell those after you are done.

IT was a little ambiguous about the flashme buisness.  It just said it was compatible.  Either way, its another option.

Maxconsole has a preview copy of the DS-X:

My pre-order is in. I will post a short review here once I get it. It is also in production now so it's only a few weeks away.

DS-X also will give out samples to developers if they find them worthwhile.  So I am going to try to get one that way.

I am making a dart scoring app.  Here's a pic from about 2 weeks ago.  Currently it is working and I ahve 301, 501, and cricket.  No graphics yet as a friend of mine is doing that part.

There is now a new contender for best DS flash cart...
Acekard, seems to have all the features of the DS-X and uses micro-SD.

http://www.acekard.com/  (warning website is half Chinese/ half English)

The two of the big NDS Emu/Dev forums are talking about it,

http://www.pocketheaven.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=35815&highlight=#35815
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=37391&st=0

Second link has a movie of it playing some DS games that would normally need to be patched on the M3/Supercard. No price or release date, it looks like it's still in it's testing phases.

On a semi side note Chishm talking about patching and Flash cart purchasing "theory".

Shame that there's no external memory option, though.

There are plenty of options for cards with external memory if that's what you're after... just not in the DS slot.   Where would you physically PUT the card?  I'm amazed they got a miniB port on there... even a microSD slot would be a really tough fit.

Get a card that uses the GBA slot if you want external memory.

Hah!   ;D

I AM quite surprised they got a microSD card in there though... very cool.  I hope it winds up being a legit product.

The first review has been posted of the DS-X here :www.gbatemp.net

Kotaku should have their review up tomorrow or the next day as well as Maxconsole, if there

My DS-X should ship Friday, so I should have it by the end of next week. If there is anything that the reviews miss that you would like me to check out I would be happy to do it.

I am probably going to get one.  If I don't like it I don't think it will be that hard to resell for near full price.  If they are short stocked that would be better :)

I hopethe usb debugging tool will be good when they get that developed.  Thats the only reason I want this otherwise I would go with supercard.  My dart scoring app is coming along nicely.

Just Flashed another DS Lite yesterday, Flashing is nothing. I'm confused how people brick there DSes doing it, I even set it down in the middle, took a call and then started back up.
Reviews of the DS-X look pretty bad ass, I might get one when they release a second gen with SD support. My M3-CF does look ugly sticking out of my DS..

If you have access to flashing your nds you might want to look at the dslink.  It's a nds slot device that uses microsd.  it requires a flashed ds or a boot card like the magickey.

Hey kool, would you mind testing something for me?  I am probably going to get a dsx.  Even though it is expensive it seems from reviews it is the best performing device.  Also since I am doing homebrew development when they release that usb debugging tool I will be interested in that.

I have a program that I'd like to know how it looks on the DS compared to the desmemu emulator.

Like all homebrew, no.  However I don't use sram or fat files yet so nothing should happen :)
It's a dart scoring app.  You select between 301, 501, and Cricket for now.  You touch the dartboard to register where the dart hit.  There is going to be a pink ring around the dartboard, it's an interlace problem from converting the vector image to raster.  It's just a placeholder anyway.  A friend of mine is working on the graphics which is why it will be mostly text and mspaint graphics.  I'll send you a pm on where to get the file.  It is made with palib.  I don't have the hardware so I am unsure how to install it or what you need so I am sending every output file.

Right now I just want to know if the colors are close to what you see when running in an emulator (other than no$gba since it has a washed look).  I think desmemu might be the only emulator palib stuff runs on though.

The reason I am making this is I have a steel tip dartboard and hate scoring by hand :)

Here's some pics.  All I really care about is how the spash screen compares since right now that's where the most color is at.  I know colors can be different but do they at least seem comparable?

To those who've picked one up.

Does the sleep function still work with this card?  I mean like on New SMB, if you close the thing while in the middle of playing does the thing go into standby with the screen off and the game not running?
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

I can only assume yes since the latest firmware has a note that they added the feature to turn off the LEDs when in sleep mode.  However, kool will have to answer that :)

That's what he is saying.  If you are playing NSMB and close the lid does game go into pause mode.  You know that because mario will say "Goodbye".

This is a problem with flashed DSs.  If you don't have a game in the nds slot the nds will not go into sleep mode.

OK.

I have good news and good news.

The sleep function does work.  I tried it with New Super Mario Bros.  I close the lid and it says "goodbye", I open it and it picks up where I left off.

Poonga, I loaded up your dart program and it looks identical to your pictures..  Touchscreen worked fine and everything as well.

Trust me, you want this thing..
