PAC-MAN Not Working
« on: August 10, 2006, 08:49:37 pm »
Our Pac-Man machine will not even turn on.

It is plugged in but happens.

Normally the Pac-Man screen is displayed at all times while plugged in. Could this be something to do with the circuit board as of the monitor is connected to it or the power supply stopped working or what.

Thanks in advance.

You'll need to be clearer in your descriptions. (What was it RayB said ?)

Do you get game sounds if you try to play ?

Is the monitor powering up ? Glowing in the neck ?  Do you get raster if you turn up the brightness ?

Was it working yesterday ? Is it turned on (you say plugged in, but is the switch on) ?

Details, please.

Cheers.

The main question is where do you live? If you live within 50 miles of me, then your PacMan is hopelessly irrepairable and I will come take it off your hands for you.

NO MORE!!

Does it have an actual ON - OFF switch ?
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

Ok,

I tryed to unplug it and plug it back in and there is no on and off switch it everything just powers on when plugged in.

The first time, I plugged it in, I could hear the monitor but nothin displayed. Than I  hit the credit switch and the screen said something in plain writing about Pac-Man and some dates or something and than would display the entire screen full of numbers and keep repeating the process.

The second time I plugged it in I could hear the monitor but nothin displayed.

Right now I think it is the circuit boards or possible the monitors but I am not too advanced in this field.

Any help would be appreciated

Pictures of what appear on screen would be helpful.

Also check the edge connector on the PCB.  They're known to get a bit dirty/corroded/burnt if not checked regularly.

There are four PacMan troubeshooting/repair guides listing in the wiki:

http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Restoration

One of them is screenshot-based and may help narrow the problem down.

Cheers.

Now it's time for a volt meter.  There are three fuses at the bottom of the game. If you unplug the game and take each of the fuses out and check those for continuity (make sure they are not blown). You can buy an auto-ranging meter from the retched Radio shack for about 40 bucks.

If they are intact you have to make sure that there is 5 volts on the board. Do you have the schematics/ wiring diagrams for you game?
