Woops, I think I'm screwed

Today I was moving my 19" PC monitor that I decased and mounted onto a piece of wood, and I accidently layed it on it's back and heard the infamous release of air. It seems like the little glass tube at the very end of the tube broke, if that makes sense, and now when I plug it in, which I probably shouldn't have done, but did, it sparks from there. So can that somehow be replaced, or am I in the market for a new monitor?

maybe possible to buy a new tube but judging from your experience(no offence) you may find it a difficult job to install(you have to swap yokes/degauss coil/grounds),i think your better off buying another complete monitor on ebay and being a little more careful next time(always place tube on the front on some cardboard or bubble wrap)

Yup.... find a new monitor.
Swapping the tube out and getting the convergence and everything else back in order will leave you more pissed off than you probably already are.

I was expecting these answers, I guess it's a pretty difficult job then, I thought maybe I could just replace that one part and be back in business, the worst part is all the time I spent mounting it, oh well I guess I should take your word and move on to ebay and craigslist    If I were to go the fixing route, what would be involved besides discharging and replacing the tube, would I even be able to buy that little tube? I guess I am in way over my head  , but I'm always willing to learn.

if you do want to go down the tube only route then be aware that the degauss coil and earth leads are easy,the difficult thing is your yoke(when i change a yoke first i use paint to mark a line down all of the seperate rings so if some come out of place then easy to realign them),if you get the rings in the wrong position your purity will be out and its a very time consuming exercise to realign them
anyway your tube will have a manufacturer name and code number for the tube this has to the one you buy because there are different tubes for different type monitors(although you may be able to find a different manufacturer that make the same type tube) best to google that tube number and make and see if anyone sells them

ok so the end of the tube broke off of the blue connector seen in the picture. So my only option is to replace the entire screen and tuber right? That has to be expensive right? Would it be cheaper to go ebay for another monitor like you said? It really comes down to the cheapest solution I guess.

You do realize that it's the ENTIRE glass portion that needs replaced right?
(the screen portion and all is one piece)

Yes, It probaly would cost you more for just the tube than the monitor is worth. (IMO)

yeah I originally thought it was 2 pieces for some dumb reason, guess that shows my experience in this, but when I took it apart a little bit I realized I had to replace everything, which  sucks, so as you guys originally said eBay it is. It's just hard for me to accept something to be broken and just throw it out without trying to fix it, I bet you guys can relate.

there are companies that can repair broken tubes but they are mainly for rare older types and i guess it would expensive,look at the positive side you now know how easy it is to break a tube,we all break one at some point-thats just the nature of the job

You got off easy, it could have imploded. It's such a mess, all that glass to clean up and pick out of your skin...hehehe!

Just throw in the towel on it and buy another one. Chalk it up to experience and a lesson learned.

Two things:

1) you don't have to discharge a vented tube.

2) you don't release air, it goes inside a vented tube to fill the vacuum.

I just did this a few months ago with a 27 inch Eygo. Broke it while transporting it in the car. The neck got caught on another monitor I had back there and PSSSSSSSHHHHHHH.... there it went.
