What is the story behind this?

It was written and directed by Collin Friesen who wrote The Big White (2005).

It featured Chris Parnell who has been in various TV shows, including Saturday Night Live.

It also featured Rick Hoffman who was in Hostel (2005) along with various other movies and TV shows.

It was a professional production with professional actors and must have cost a good deal of money; so how do they make money off it? Was everyone working for free?

Seeing this again reminded me of another movie I came across a few years ago of similar high production value called Rare Exports, Inc.

Warning*not really work safe

Or the fake Nutrigrain commercial:

Its so awesome that youtube now has all these great videos.  It used to be so hard to find these things online, but now they're all in one place.  I'm actually surprised they have the Nutrigrain one because Nutrigrain was making every site that hosted it take it down when it first came out.
