Championship Sprint issue
« on: July 24, 2006, 09:55:54 am »
I purchased a "working" Championship Sprint this past Sat.  When I went to pick it up it worked fine.  When I got it home and turned it on, it didn't work properly.  I reset edge connectors, checked fuses, reset all the connectors to the power supply and boards.  Turned it back on and the same problem.

When I turn the game on, sometimes the intro screen comes on and lets me select a player.  When it does this it goes to the select a track screen.  after either selecting a track or by doing nothing at all, it will return to the intro screen.  When I turn the game on and the game doesn't load into the intro screen, I get a solid color (blue or red or black) and the sound doesn't work.  I figure I have either a voltage issue or during the move something has become unseated on the boards.  Am I correct to assume that this is my problem or am I overlooking something?  Thanks for the replies.

You mean I can type anything I want in here and it will show up?

Loose socketed chips on the gameboards.

It was running for approx 2hrs maybe a little less before I loaded it into my truck.  I was helping some people move and had turned it on first thing when I got there and left it running to see if it would wig out on me.  It worked fine except for the 2nd player start button which turned out to be the ground fell off the button.  I am pretty confident that during the move a chip or two got jostled around and unseated itself.  I plan on working on it tonite after work and will let you guys know what I come up with.  Thanks again guys!

Well, it appears to be a loose socketed chip.  After pressing them all back down it worked fine.  I left it on for an hour after playing to see what it would do and I got the solid color screen again.  I believe the next step for me is to unseat each one and lightly eraser them and reseat them.  I might also go ahead and check voltagages.  Any other suggestions?
