Building Out Game Room - Recessed Outlets?
« on: July 25, 2006, 11:10:03 am »
I'm building out my Rec/Game room and I'm looking for some recessed outlets--the stuff I'm finding locally (Menards, Home Depot) basically don't cut it, as they appear as if they'd drop in post-drywall, and I'm not interested in that.

The reason I want recessed outlets is so I can easily mount a TV or other screen over the top and not have to make a lot of room for excessive plugs and cords; I'd rather run all that stuff through the wall and I'd rather mount as flat to the wall as possible to help prevent any walk-by mishaps.

Does anyone have any resources for this type of thing?

Thanks!

A quick search on google brings up the LEV 688, which some sources say is sold at Home Depot. I found this online source for them, but I'm sure there are others. http://www.residential-landscape-lighting-design.com/store/PPF/Category_ID/77/products.asp

They do sell that at HD, however, it's also limiting.

I want basically to get the gang box so I can run what I choose (HDMI, RCA, Electrical, Cat6, whatever) to it.

Your best bet would be to get some shallow mount receptacle boxes and custom build the recessed box to put them in. This way, you could put several outlets of any type you want in there.

This is just an example

I go to this place locally for stuff like that.

They do commercial stuff too if you go back to the main page.
Not sure if they carry exactly the recessed "outlets" you are looking for.

But maybe there's a similar type outfit/store near you.

Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.
