Speaker placement help?
« on: July 31, 2006, 09:05:46 am »
Hey guys this is a rough design diagram of my basement basically i have drop ceiling everywhere that is gray color, so speakers can go anywhere in these areas. What I have is three distinct areas, pool table section, tv section, bar section. I have 6 in ceiling speakers, I DON"T have to use em all sooo keep that in mind. Where and how should i orient the speakers in these areas? diagonal? perpindicular? I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ask that question here www.audioholics.com you might get a better response. You will want to give room dimensions as well as speaker specs and what you have driving those speakers. You may also want to include where your television is in the room (somewhere close to the bar?). When you say 3 distinct areas, what do you mean? 1 area plays music while the others don't? Playing different music in all 3 at the same time? With 6 speakers and 3 "zones" you will most likely need all 6 speakers, most people are going to tell you that you will need more. Consider that most people run a 5.1 surround setup just for their televisions now, some run 6.1 and 7.1 like I do.

these speakers will be for music only, all will play the same music throughout the basement

Assuming I'm reading this right and you have no intention of piping your TV audio through the speakers, I would say one in each corner and one on each end of the closet (facing pool table and couch).

Then again, I know next to nothing about acoustics, just seems to me the best way to spread them out and minimize dead space.
