quick question about a trackball

Yes, you either connect the trackball via USB or into your PS/2 mouse port. In either case it acts like a mouse. The included buttons are already attached to the trackball, and act as mouse buttons (since the trackball acts as a mouse). As for mounting plate, that's up to you. An alternative to a mounting plate is to route out an area on the underside of the control panel for the trackball assembly to fit in, then just use the included bolts. You are correct that the trackball doesn't come with a mounting plate (as X-Arcade doesn't use one in the full preassembled trackball).
