mame & mamewah questions on running certain games
« on: June 07, 2006, 11:46:26 pm »
Im currently running the latest version of mame with the mamewah frontend.  When running certain games, particularly ones that require a chd, the monitor will go into sleep mode when trying to load the game. I have to hit escape to go back to the frontend.  Most games work fine but there are a handfull that tend to do that, and i know the game works.

Also, what speed machine do you need to play certain games like NFL blitz or Gauntlet dark legacy? Are they playable on say a 1.5ghz Amd? TIA

Does the monitor indicate something on the screen saying it's going into sleep mode?  Never noticed this before, but depending on how you ini's are set it may seem that way as it changes the screen resolution when loading the game.  Also many CHD's take a very long time to load depending on a number of factors.

Those two games should "play" but wouldn't be playable - about 1/60fps.  There are a couple that work - do a search for chd's this topic has been raised a lot

True that, but to answer your question....

The solution is rather obvious, just turn off sleep mode for your monitor in the display settings.  It's found in the screensaver tab I believe.

Sleep mode is always a bad idea anyway as it doesn't work right, even when it seems like it does.  (It's complicated just trust me on that one.)

Since mamewah has a screensaver mode I suggest you just use that to save your screen.
