« on: May 09, 2006, 12:28:56 pm »
i am looking into putting my dreamcast in my cabinet. only question is how do i go about using my slik stik as a controller? is there an USB to Dreamcast Adapter. Also if they do have one do i run a usb splitter so that my slick stik goes to 2 devices? i am lost on how to do this. please help.

Hmmm.. I'm not sure if Slikstik makes an adapter to interface the controls with a Dreamcast.  I've looked, and all I've found are interfaces that allow you to use your Dreamcast controller on your computer which isn't going to help you.

I posted a similar topic a few posts down about putting a Dreamcast in a cabinet, and other than using the BYOA X-Arcade kit, or hacking Dreamcast control pads yourself, I don't think there's any other way to do it.

Check out the other post though... it may give you a few leads....

Your SlikStik uses an Ultimarc I-pac encoder.  Awhile back, Andy from Ultimarc said he was working on a Dreamcast adapter for the I-pac.  E-mail him and see what the status is:

my question is would i be able to get the X-Arcade: Build Your Own Arcade Kit and run 2 wires from each  connection on the SS. 1 would go to the ipac like the slikstik does and the other to the BYOAK. Can i do this and it still work? i would then get the dreamcast x arcade adapter to connect the BYOAK to the dreamcast.  In reality it is just 1 connection split 2 ways. and it should work. any reason that it would not?

I'd love to answer your question, but it's a little convoluted. It sounds like you want to connect the Xarcade to the Slickstick's encoder and then connect the Xarcade to your Dreamcast through an adapter. Somehow I doubt that doing this will yeild whatever result it is that you're trying to achieve. I suspect that I'm just not interpreting your question correctly.

sorry i wasnt clear. Basically what i want to do is hook the slikstik to the dreamcast. you cant directly do it it becasue of the ipac. But what i wanted to do is inside the slik stik there are wires that run from the buttons into the ipac. i wanted to connect another set of wires that run from the buttons to the BYOAK bypassing the ipac all togeather for the 2nd set of connections. so it is basically 2 control panels with one set of buttons. with each button running to a different encoder. 1 encoder would run the mame and pc functions and the other the dreamcast function. What would probally happen if this is possible is that when the DC is on both the DC and the PC would be recieving the same inputs at the same time. becasue the buttons are connected to 2 outputs. Not a problem. for example if I wire one button that is the x on the pc i would send that button also to the x on the DC. so while playing the DC the pc would be seeing it as i am pushing the x button on the pc. Also even though i am not on the pc. no Big deal as long as it is not a major function button such as start on the pc.
