Good looking game room you've got there! One more reason to get a place with a basement!

Great job on the table!  I've bookmarked your site for future (hopefully not too future) reference.
You don't live in Chicago by any chance do you?   ;D

Looks good.  I wish I could build one of these or a pool table but I dont have to room.  I have my MAME cab in the basement and theres no room down there.  My mom does hair down there (only 16) and my room is down there also.  I have a huge desk down there fill with computer guts (job) most of it has a low celing also so my 6'2" cabinet barly fits.  There are to spare bed rooms upstairs that I only use when I cant get to my room because of computer parts and I sleep on the couch most of them.  I might change it into a game room but Its still a kinda small room in its on the second floor.  How long is the shuffle board table.  If I was you I would have painted it black and put green t-molding on it and a black play area (ally?)  and put a galiga cab close by  ;D

Thanks everyone.
You don't need as much room as you might think.  Its only 2 feet wide and it can be right up against the wall.  So as long as you have a nice long wall, you might be able to squeeze it in.

Sorry, I live in the burbs of Philly, but I'm happy to answer questions.   ;)

That's so awesome.  A friend of mine and I were talking about giving this a shot a couple of years ago but we never did.  This idea came to us over a few beers while at a Dave and Buster's while playing on their shuffle board.  Although we were thinking about using some pergot type fake wood laminate flooring to give that wood look but I really like your MDF approach.  Cheap and much easier.

I just may try this now that my MAME cabinet is complete.

I also have a dedicated theater room in my basement (along with a candy counter and real popcorn machine outside of it).

I'm thinking maybe the painting like a movie strip down the middle to tie in with the theater...hmmmm

Anyway, great idea and thanks for the link!

(boy is my wife gonna be pissed that I found a new project to waste time on)

I thought about using a laminate floor.  It's a good idea, but the thing that kills is is the texture they put on it.  I assume they do this to give it a little more friction.  Good for flooring, bad for shuffleboard.  Of course, laminate flooring is really just pieces of MDF anyway.  I also thought about just using regular wood floor, but then the problem is all the wood filler needed to fill the gaps between boards.  Even if you could get them all filled and sanded it would look pretty ghetto when it was done.

One of the advantages of MDF is you can paint it however you like.  Movie film is a pretty cool idea.  Sounds like it would fit your basement theme pretty well.

Oh, and the Wife Acceptance Factor on the shuffleboard table was pretty high.  Everyone seems to like shuffleboard!  Unlike my MAME cabinet, which I finished nearly 3 1/2 years ago, and I think my wife has played it for a total of maybe a half hour.

I have a friend that owns a bar. He and his brother made their own tables for it. They made them out of old bowling lanes. The tables look friggin sweet. I always thought that I could make a sweet shuffleboard table out of them, but I have no clue where they got the stuff.

Hey, I'm in the Philly burbs too!  :)

It's funny, after I got done my cab a back in March, I was wondering how feasable it would be to build a shuffleboard table, so it was great to see you post.

How long of a wall do you need? Just in case I can talk my wife into it.  ;D

Did you find a good source for the pucks?  How about the sand or whatever you use for to make it slick on top???

The pucks seem to be pretty pricey as far as I can see, but if that's what they cost then so be it.

You need about 2' on each end of the table.  So for my 12' table I need about 16' of total wall space.  Standard table sizes range from 9' to 22', but I wouldn't bother with any less than 12'.  Just seems to easy.  12' is pretty good with a fast wax.  Of course 22' would be awesome.  8)

I got pucks on Ebay, but I think I looked at every site on the 'net that sells them before I bought.  They were about $100.  More than I wanted to spend, but there really was no alternative.  The larger more common size pucks (2 5/16) can be found under $75.

I got a case of shuffleboard wax (the powder stuff) at htmarket.com for about $3 a can shipped.  Best price around by far.  Of course that's more than I'll need for three lifetimes, but it was a really good price.
