Hantarex polo 25" problemo
« on: September 26, 2006, 06:01:18 am »
Hi guys, man am i glad i found this forum.

I have a little problem, i was showing my killer instinct machine to the guy who was buying it from me! and the screen just cut off  :o

It made a sparking sound and then cut off, the sparking sound continued until i pulled the plug, now when i turn it on, it makes that sparking sound, upon opening the back, the below picture is what i see, and sparks come out of it every 2 seconds it i turn it on, ive only done this once as it scared the crap outta me!

Any help would be much appreciated!

note: the white arrow points to were the sparks come from, as you can see its slightly burnt.

that the flyback transformer, you need to replace it-basically they get a little hole in them and arc to ground-sometimes its possible to repair them by putting something like araldite in the hole but if any of the internel windings are bad then this won't help
they are not expensive and quick to change
if you live in the u.k you can get one from hantarex direct, suzo or brent leisure

Thanks for the info mate, really helped!

I live in london and i think there is a hantarex relatively near, i shall give em a call in a bit, is it easy enough for someone with limited knowledge of electronics to replace? or do you think i should have hantarex do it themselves? how much do you think i am looking at paying?

sorry for all the questions!  ;)

Thanks!

good ole sydenham hill,it will cost about 50 pounds plus parts-i reckon around 80 quid plus vat-if your a novice don't attempt this as you could do more damage, but all depends on if your present knowledge-try the araldite first, you never know

No luck with the araldite, the electricity just shot through it :(

I rang hantarex and asked for a quote and he said 180 quid lol, so i asked him how much would a chassis be on its own and then maybe i could try it myself, he said the chassis on its own is around 120 quid, does this sound right mate?

thanks for any more help!

its a good price,if you have any soldering skills you could do this job yourself(a flyback will set you back about 30 quid+vat from suzo or brent)
all you need to complete the task is a soldering iron/solder and solder sucker-also a basic tool kit and a bit of courage
if all this costs about 80 quid then its seems more sensible to just get the chassis

thanks again for the quick reply mate.

After having a think about it, i thought i might aswell get the chassis, hantarex didnt have one in stock so i rang brent leisure and they said it would cost 175 quid, does this sound about right? thats if i pick it up from ealing which is fairly close.

Would a straight chassis swap be alot easier than changing the flyback? how difficult is it to change a chassis?

thanks!

thats a bit of a mark up by brent,i would not pay that
depends how quick you want to do things
changing the chassis means you have to remove it obviously so for another twenty minutes work you could change the lopti
the lopti(or flyback as the americans call it) has two wires connected to the neck card, one is soldered in the other is in a push terminal on the neck socket
the h.t lead goes to the tube itself
the lopti is soldered into place and you would need a desoldering tool the remove the old solder-you have to be careful because if you damage any of the through holes its differcult to repair also there is an extra earth pin to desolder at the front of the lopti(which catches alot of people out) and a locating screw to the metal chassis on the top side as well
you know i think a really good idea for you is to buy the lopti yourself and get a tv repair shop quote to fit it
for the job itself from start to finish is about an hour including setup
one other person you could try is tony at d.h leisure in surrey,he is a fantastic monitor engineer and well priced-phone number 01737 222777

I thought it was a bit steep to be honest!

Im not bothered about how long it takes, just want to make sure what i do will work, i found a guy in america that has a chassis for 120$ delivered, which is a quality price, if i got that i could pay someone 100 quid or so to put it in! Dont happen to live near Harrow do ya?  ;D

Thanks alot for the info on replacing the LOPTI but im pretty sure i would eff it up lol, so i think ill give Tony at DH a call and see what he reckons! Do you reckon he would come to my house and fix it if i paid him enough?  ;D  a definate gap in the market there, mobile monitor engineers lol

Thanks again for your all your help, your really helping me out here!  ;)

Did you get this sorted.  I'm in Harrow and would like to know if you've found a good mobile arcade repair guy.  Is this the KI machine that went on eBay in Harrow?  Bad luck if so, it went for a good price....
