Console Controller to I-PAC?

I've been thinking about setting up console controllers for my mame cab but am too poor/cheap to buy all those adapters. If I were to cut the ends off, could the wires be attached to an I-PAC or does it not work that way?

if you hack the controller wouldnt you be you be using the game pad as your thingy-ma-giggie.  Meaning you would not need the ipac.  Never hacked a pad but sound right...

I know they sell conversion kits at retrousb.com and sell other adapters elsewhere but what I am saying is if I cut the plug off say an SNES controller and strip the wires will there be a wire that represents each button so i can than attach it to an I-PAC? This just seems to be a cheap way out.

from what I understand, the i-pac is an encoder/decoder for the buttons and tells each button what to do.  If you hack a joypad, that encoder/decoder will already be in place, right.

The hacked pads I have seen, hook directly to the buttons, if I am not mistaken.  An for what it is worth, I am not an expert and have never hacked a pad,  use the search option and type in hacked______ what ever, you should be able to get some post on this topic.

thanks for the responces whatzcrackn, sorry i should really explain myself better, try #3, I already have an I-PAC and an arcade control panel but now that I'm getting into console emulators I want to be able to use the original controllers. So I want to plug an SNES controller into my PC, the only way I have seen to do this is to buy adapters or a USB conversion kit. This would be too expensive for me right now, so I thought that maybe if I were the take an SNES controller cut the plug off and expose the wire that there would be wires that correspond to each button so I could then plug that into the I-PAC and use the controlle on the PC. Possible?

i wouldnt do that ud have to do a weird rig if u wanted both
basically wire all of ur wire to both the controller and the ipac

If a snes cotroller is like the nes controller just cutting off the end and attaching the wires won't work.  Your going to need to solder 13 wires to the pcb to get full functionality.  And then connect those wires to you ipac. You can also try using a parallel port like here.

I understand the quest for being cheap and all, but sometimes it's worth it just to spend a little extra money on high quality items.  I have 2 superjoy converters and I must say that they work beautifully.  You don't have to bother with making your SNES usb only (so you can still use them on an SNES if you want).  Just plug in the superjoy to usb, plus in the snes controller to that, and you're set.

As far as hooking them directly to the ipac, like other people on here have said - that just won't work.
