First MAME cabinet artwork...
« on: April 07, 2006, 05:52:58 pm »
Here's the side art that I've come up with for my cabinet. The art would fit the upper portion of the UAII cabinet, but I might change the design to fit a Blitz cabinet that I might be getting for free. Either way, this is a good indication of what it would look like.

I'm doing a sort of theme here that I think people might like. The left side of the cab, marquee, and control panel will be red (villains) and the right side will be blue (heroes). The panel won't have any character art, but it might have a VS logo in the middle between the first and second player buttons and sticks.

I'm still most likely going to be making some edits to this image, but this is what I've got as my "as of today" artwork. I'll bump this thread up with pictures of the cabinet, CP, and such as they come together.

Any opinions on the art? Anything obviously messed up or in need of fixing? Any neat ideas of how to further implement the theme into my CP and marquee?

you need to place the villains with the approprete heros coisiding with each other.

Example :  You have pac man up high and the ghost down low.  put them in the same relative spots on each Side.

Also you have to do something about Ryu the hard line of the bottom of him looks bad, real bad.

Juggs vector needs to be changed out,  That is a bad vector image.  You want to keep all the Images on the same level of sytle.

Yeah, I've already found a Ryu replacement image. He'll be bigger and better placed in the revision.

I actually took a side shot and traced it in Illustrator. It's not exact, but it's going to be close enough and something good to work with for now.

Ok, I updated the side art design and designed the marquee. Both of these are still preliminary designs, so feedback is much appreciated.

First off, here's the revised side art:

Here's first attempt at a marquee:

Construction should begin next weekend if I can finalize my decision on whether or not I want to go ahead and build an UAII cab or use an existing Blitz cab. If I go with the Blitz cab I'm totally replacing the CP and sanding it down for a repaint.

Nice work, I like it a lot!

Question, where did you get the vector graphics?  Did you trace them yourself in Illustrator?

I can get around in Photoshop pretty well, but I *suck* at Illustrator.  I don't even know how to "trace" in it.

Either way, I figure it's not too early to start thinking about graphics once my cab is built.  I was going to use some "stock" art, but once I got to thinking about it, why not personalize it since I'm going to all the trouble of building it from scratch?

So far, I'm thinking on a black and red themed cab, that's about it.

Thanks for your help!

The vector graphics are from http://localarcade.com

I think I've finally come up with a name. I'm probably going to settle on Battlecade for the name, but additional suggestions are welcome.
