Dreamcast VGA Compatibility list
« on: March 31, 2006, 11:33:42 am »
I stumbled accross this list on one of the Dreamcast forums I frequent DCFORUMS and thought it might help some others in picking games suitable for thier hi-res playability. It also touches how to patch a game to VGA mode.

Thanks for posting this Goz.  I don't suppose you have the code which can make a game RGB/Scart 15khz compatible?  For example, Vampire Chronicals (not listed) will only work with compsite/svideo OR VGA, but not 15khz RGB/Scart.  :(

Yup, that list is good.  Especially back when it was posted here. ;)

You'll have to let me know about the patch for Vampire Chronicle...I picked this one up (thanks Goz).

Ahh, forgot about that patch site (thanks for the older link frosty).  I see an RGB fix for Vampire Chronicles.

I was going to ask but I think that post answers my question - Using 15KHz thru the VGA adapter is restricted to games that support VGA, no?  That's why some games need patching afterwards?

Nah--shouldn't be a problem.  I've never had an issue with any game playing @ 15 KHz.  No patching necessary...

Some games do a detection routine at start up and if it is not VGA enabled and you have a VGA box attached regardless of frequency it will fail with a message indicating that the game does not support VGA.

Maybe you didn't read my post above Frosty, but Vampire Chronicles will not play @ 15khz rgb, but will happily play @ 31khz VGA or S-Video/Component.  There are patches specifically for RGB (I linked to it in one of my posts above).

Yeah...you're right.  I had thought I was playing my original GD-Rom in the cabinet the other day, but when I looked: I had my backup (patched) copy in there.  Doh!

My backup of SFIII Third strike doesn't work with the VGA box for some reason :(
