Newbie Question - Monitor Question - Mame Related
« on: February 26, 2003, 10:12:55 pm »
I finally got a cabinet, I got a superman tatio cabinet from 1988, it has everything in it but the board, cant complain the cabinet was $40 (canadian).  While I was taking it apart I couldnt decide if I was going to try and turn it into a mame cabinet, ran by pc or xbox.  In the end i decided to use my xbox.  My question is the monitor has a cable with 5 wires in it and also has I think 2 black wires near the side of the monitor (looks like ground maybe). Is there anyway to hook the xbox up to it or even check to see if the monitor fires up and displays video.  The connector has a red a black and 3 other wires not sure what the colors are.  Can I assume the red is power the black is ground and maybe the other wires are for video input or something?  Is there anyway I can find out the wiring for the monitor, or a wiring schematic for it, are all cabinet monitors wired some what the same??
any help apreciated thanks ??? ???

You could get a component output for your x-box using the high definition converter (like $30 bucks at any x-box dealer, i think).  I know people have gone from component to monitor before, so it is possible.
Game programmers do not play games for a living.  Would you say a mechanic drives cars for a living?

There is no standard way monitors are wired.  Color convention (not all cabs are wired with the colors this way): Red for Red video, Green for Green, Blue for Blue, White for Sync, Black for ground, and two larger black wires for power. It's highly recommended you look for a manual for your specific monitor. You should be able to find the manufacturer and model on the large circuit board.

The easiest way to hook up your X-Box is to get a RGB SCART cable and open it up to get the signals you need. If you're in Europe this is no problem, but if you're in the US, you're probably going to have to import one from a place such as http://www.lik-sang.com .  You could use a component or any other X-Box cable, but it requires alot more work.
