Problem with Ultimarc PS2 Console Adapter
« on: November 01, 2005, 09:22:44 pm »
Im having some trouble getting my ultimarc PS2 adapter to work.  I purchased it with an IPAC2.  I have both the PS\2 cable and a USB cable and the IPAC2 works great with both.  However, when I hook the PS\2 Cable to my console adapter it does not respond with the playstation 2 at all.  I have tried resetting the PS2, reconnecting, anything I can think of.  I did a search here but didn't find anything.  I feel stupid asking about this since it seems like a such a simple hook up (IPAC---->PS/2 Cable---->Console Adaptor---->PS2).  Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks in advance for any help.  I would never have been able to get as far as I have without these forums!!

All I can think of is make sure your IPAC is programmed with the standard keycodes - the PSX adaptor expects the standard keys in order to convert them to a signal your PS2 understands.

If you have done that and still nothing happens, I would email Andy @ Ultimarc.

FWIW I have one which doesn't work at all either, but I think it may have been damaged in transit.

Thanks Minwah, I got in touch with Andy at Ultimarc.  He told me that I could directly connect a keyboard to the PS2 console adapter board  to test it.  I did and it didn't work.  He is sending a new board, and if his shipping times are anything like last time it will be here in no time flat!

Has anyone else had problems with these adapters being DOA lately?  I received my replacement in the mail yesterday, looked like it came from Germany this time.  I hooked it up and nothing.  Tried the keyboard connection and still nothing.  I then tried a friends PS2 and it was still dead.  The closest I got to signs of life is when I hooked it up to a PSOne, the lights on the keyboard for caps lock, num lock etc. all flashed when I turned the unit on.  The controls did not work at all however.

I have this exact same problem right now, two times over!

Both my original PSX adapter and the replacement adapter which just arrived yesterday are both DOA. Very frustrating seeing as how the replacement took almost three weeks to arrive.

Same results with mine. Lights flash on for a split second, and then nothing, no input response. Tried it with two different keyboards, one of which I know works, because I'm typing this message with it now.

VERY frustrating. Don't these things get tested before they leave the facility? I mean, two bad ones in a row? Common!! -_-

I've had similar issues with other Ultimarc products.  All got replaced.

This is my second replacement for this product, my fourth replacement in all. As Andy isn't quick to contact me back anymore, I think I'm opting for a refund, and I'll do a controller hack instead. I can't wait another month to get this stuff working. My beef is if I return this product again, I'll have paid as much in return shipping for another product.

I had 2 DOA boards, but they were both replaced. Now I'm having a problem where it *momentarily* disconnects from the ps2, which causes games like 3rd Strike to "pause" while I reconnect the controller. That's very annoying, and I wish I could figure out a way to fix it.
