MameWAH & Dat files
« on: March 09, 2006, 11:48:57 pm »
I just downloaded MameWAH 1.61 and got it running.  I can only get it to generate a list for my Atari emulator when using the "rom_folder" method for the list generation.  I'd like to use a dat file which I have, but when I set the list generation method to "dat_file" it doesn't generate anything.  I have the dat_file specified in my emulator's .ini file.  I used clrmamepro to create my dat file.  Am I missing anything?  What did I do wrong??  ???

Thanks for your help.

Okay, I used an .nms file and got the file name thing to work.  I still can't pull the manufacturer from the .dat file or the type from the catver.ini file.  Any ideas?

Alright...I'm getting closer.  I got the catver.ini file to work.  It specifically doesn't like my dat file.  If I use anything regarding the dat file in the list generation method it won't generate the list and it won't pull the manufacturer, etc. from the dat file.  Could I have an old format of the file?  How do you generate the dat file (or what should it look like) for emulators (not Mame)?

Thanks for your help and patience.

   manufacturer "test"
   rom ( name 3d_tic.bin size 4096 crc 0xa9f6c74d md5 f3213a8a702b0646d2eaf9ee0722b51c )
)

Here's my emulator ini

### List Generation Settings ###
rom_path                                  c:\games\emulators\atari260\roms
rom_extension                             bin
dat_file                                  c:\games\emulators\atari260\atari260.dat
nms_file                                  c:\games\emulators\atari260\atari260.nms
catver_ini_file                           c:\games\emulators\atari260\atari260catver.ini

I am not sure DAT files work for anythin other than Mame. Same with catver.ini files. The rom set you seem to be using is an old set with poor naming. For instance, a properly named game in a proper rom set is:

3-D Tic-Tac-Toe (1978) (Atari) [!].a26

I would rename or update your roms.

Okay, good to know about the dat files.  Explains a lot.  :D  I think I originally did it when I was playing with Lazarus.  Can't remember now though.

The catver.ini files seems to work fine.  Not sure if I can make a filtered list based on it though.  Haven't gotten that far.

Yeah, the rom naming sucks.  I originally had them how you described, but then I was playing with using DOS 6.22 and it didn't support the long filenames.  So, I changed them to what they are now.  Too much work to put them back, so I'll live with them.  Not like I'm going to get more Atari roms anyway  ::)

Thanks for the feedback though.

just my two cents ....... but since you are "just installing MameWah" , I would definitely use the most recent version (and more user friendly  - IMO) of MameWahv1.62

I am using 1.62b9 right now, but I think b10 is out as well.....

I believe you can get it from <Edit>(see next post below)<Edit>

Again, just my two cents .....

I believe you can get it from the www.mameworld.net (Mame Testers forum)

NOT! It is always available in the top thread of the MameWAH forum at www.mameworld.net. Here is a link:

Enjoy,
