Guy looks like a complete tool, though.

Man, I wish I could buy this. Wrong side of the US and spent all my cash...

Not my auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/missile-command-arcade-game-booth_W0QQitemZ8258529702QQcategoryZ4315QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

These are pretty rare.

Possibly Ultra-Rare.  I researched MC Cockpit's a little while ago...for curiosity sake (they look awesome imo)
The bone of contention and common story is that less than 100 were made (they say 99).  However, there are MS Cockpit owners out there with serial numbers up to #138 (highest I've heard anyway). Dan Kramer, from Atari Consumer Engineering 1980-84, stated that a fellow employee, in '83, claimed that 200 were made.  The word is they were made primarily for Chucky Cheese!!??  When the Cockpits stopped raking in the money, they couldn't really convert them to anything and they took up a shite load of space... so a lot were chopped!!   Some claim that less that 20 still exist?? I have know idea!

Hence, the rarity internetlore on this classic.   Ahhhhh...an Arcade Mystery!  Where's the 'Hardy Boys' when you need them?

I don't really even care for Missile Command, yet I would've easily fronted a grand if that auction was in the north east.  Sad.

He got a good final price for it considering it was "local pick up only".

Regarding the #'s, yes they are supposed to be low. But I've heard you can never rely on the serial #s. Manufacturers would purposely use "random" serial numbers so that the competition never new the quantity that ended up being made.
