Uhmmmm....sorry but......I don't like it.

The monitor is WAAAAAYYYY too small for that strangely long/high upper part of the cab ?!?!

Also, not too creative with the artwork....we've seen all the famous game figures and brand names now I guess.....

On the other hand, it's your cab, as long as you like it, enjoy it !

It's very, um, tall looking. Everything else I completely hang with as it looks just like my own cab. The blue/black thing is classic and never goes out of style.

I don't think it's fair to criticize the design.  It looks well built and people build cabs to suit their needs.  Perhaps Shawnzilla is member of the Padaung tribe in Burma. ;)

Don't listen to them Shawn.

Your cabinet design is very unique.  It appears to be much taller than other cabs.  Please tell us how the design came about.

 :) Thank you!

The tallness was totally unintentional. I was just following Saint's plans out of the book and before I realized it, "poof!" I had a 9 foot tall cabinet!

The cab sides were my first cuts, and once that was done I saw how tall they were and it was too late. I did measure my cuts, but I was thinking in inches and not converting to feet. So, I just went with it and made a very tall cab.

My wife's boss who happens to be over 7 feet tall loves it.

I've always loved the look of cabs with the multi-characters on them. So, that's what I wanted for myself.  I worked very hard on my cab and I'm absolutely proud of it.

My next cab will be a VectorCab, and will be a regular size. Probably similar to a Williams cab.

Shawn I think the construction looks good. The buttons must look cool at night, I can't wait to get mine.

My first cab had the character art too, though I kind of understand why people rag on it from a style perspective. I didn't do it for the style, I did it to evoke the memories.

;D hey, building these things is always personal taste.  I have two brothers who are over 6'6" tall and they would love it.  they complain mine makes them hunch (hell I am 6'1" and it fits me fine).  I have looked at some and said not my style but  do not like is not there.  The beautiful part of this hobby is self expression.  Rock On and have fun!!!!

Could you imagine how much fun Vertical SHMUPS would be on this cab with a vertically mounted 32" screen?  The only problem would be the ability to see all the action in that close.

Dude,  that thing is awesome....I love how you just "went with it"    I do agree with putting a 32inch LCD widescreen upright in that sucker...It would make it the ultimate vertical gaming heaven.

Although I'm sure you dont want to throw down like a $1000 dollars for one of those suckers to play galaga on.

Holy jesus.  Where's the NBA, we're opening a mame franchise.  Every BYOAC member and their family are the height of Miami Heat Forewards.

On the cabinet:

Too bad about the glitch in the measurements.  Good that you made the best of it.

I see some paint runs there in the CP shot.  I suggest more patience when you're working.  Work more slowly and you won't have to "go with" measurement errors, or mistakes like paint runs.

Dude, I love this cabinet! More specifically I love the fact that you rolled with the mistake and continued on. The fact that you finished is a testiment to how totally awesome it is to have one of these. I hope to start on my cab in about 10 months (waiting for new house to be built), and will definitely use you as an inspiration to continue even in the face of adversity.

i think a great use of the space would be to add a second monitor above the main one. you could set it up to display game information(ie. marquee, title screenshot, control layout from controls.dat......), there are many builds out there that do this with smalllcds. you could also emulate playchoice dual screen cabs with the extra screen.

That is the towering inferno of cabs dude...

Personally i think you should rip the monitor out and mount a flat panel widescreen TV in there set up for playing vertical games. Man that would be huge it looks like you designed it to be so tall for such a purpose. Do it you know you want to... That would be the mother of all MR Do cabs then  ;)

I almost had a similar incident with the same plans.  Fortunately, it jumped out at me before time for cutting.

Note to saint for future editions of your book - arrows for the measurement of 74" on the sides that indicate the overall height would help prevent future mishaps.  I believe that Shawn had interpreted as I had initially as being the height before the 45 degree angle cut.

Note to everyone else - quoting my old high school chemistry teacher - 'use the reasonability test'.  It saved me from building a 9 foot arcade, but apparently not from calculating the molecular weight of helium as 14 kg.  :)

My cab is only 3 Feet tall, but I guess that's ok since its a cocktail table.  :blah: :blah: :blah:

I am sure you can always add a bigger monitor or add some lights to it.

Great job!  :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: what emulator are you using?

I have to honest here too, I don't like it.  If you cut the boards, stand back from it, and think to yourself "this ain't right..." then you have to invest the time and do it over correctly.  My cab would have been done a month ago but I told myself from the start that I'm not going to settle for mistakes.

I do however agree that if you're going to keep this thing as is, I'd run with it and get a widescreen monitor that would fit vertically and throw it in there.

Nothing against being honest.

I don't like the shape/design/proportions either, but come on, haven't it (and he/she) already been laughed at enough?

My builds haven't always ended just like I'd like them to be but .. Insult to injury?

Necessary?

Heck, I don't like it either, but to be honest this is a 3 year old post by a member that has not been active for nearly as long. At least they got their project done which is more then I can say for many. This project would actually be strait up awesome if they would go back and throw the $1000 that it would take to get a plasma that big, and make this the ultimate vertical shmup machine that it could be. To be honest, this post is dead, and has been brought back for no reason. Do we really have that much to say about something that has really no bearing on the present?
