What I have done so far:
- Replaced monitor with a new happ 19"
- replaced t moulding
- sanded entire cab
- painted entire cabinet
- installed a new happ power supply
- installed 2 electrical outlets
- installed new power cord
- installed new switch
- installed new coin door/ mechs/ bezels
- installed like new marquee
- had the board sent out so pacman can be played on it also, also had the speed chip and the cheat chip installed
- rewired the control panel so that 2 buttons are on each side of the jostick, when I press both buttons on either side at the same time the game switches to pacman or ms pacman, or each button is cheat or fast pacman by themselves
- installed surge suppresor strip- not the cheapo $2 one either, dont buy the cheapest one because you get what you pay for -remember this
- added castors for easy movement
- installed kick plate
Whats still needs to be done
- Install new or like new monitor bezel (plexi)
- Install side art
- sand and paint the marquee brackets
- buy a new control panel with new art
What I have learned
- How to rewire my cabinet by myself , wiring coin mechs, power supply, adding new electrical outlets and a switch. How did I learn how to do this- my neighbor is an electrician, so he showed me how to add the switch and outlets. As far as the power supply goes, its very simple, you cannot connect it wrong with the connectors given by happ, it wont let you.
- I already work for a computer company and used to repair monitors all the time so this was very simple for me. Just used my insulated discharge tool and that was it. I dont use 2 screw drivers as this tool is much safer than the old 2 screw driver method. Just always remember to put 1 hand behind your back so that the current will not pass through your heart when discharging a crt.
- Wiring the control panel with extra buttons was very simple but can get messy with al the wires, what you need to do is remember that current flows in a loop, you have to remeber this when wiring the cp or nothing will work as expected, remember that the cp power is very small , so no fear in getting a shock here, always use a volt meter if need be when troubleshooting any electrical issue, especially on the power supply or you will do damage to your board/ monitor/ etc.. You get the idea. When in doubt stop and look at the schematics or test the power in steps. Plug the supply in , test the edge coonnector voltages, if ok, then turn the power off, then connect to the components.
- Coin mech were very basic, replace with same type mech, thats about it. Just remeber tht there are 2 types, coin controls and happ, you will need to know which to use, how do you know, look what in the cabinet already, most cabinets use the coin controls.
- monitor- I replaced the old monitor which had weak colors, I 'll tell you that this was by far the best investment made, the picture is 100% and the best part is that this monitor comes with remote controls for adjustment so adjustments can be made from a distance- nice feature.
If anyone has the items above to complete my cabinet, please drop me a line, thanks- I have a few pcb's and other items for sale currently or trade, just look for my id: kjoel0123
Hope my input helps everyone out there[/b]
