two joypads in mame
« on: January 15, 2006, 11:51:21 am »
I have two USB gamepads, and it seems like mame sees them both as the same controller. Is this just the way mame is? Or is there something I can do to get them recognized as seperate controllers? I mean for now I can play the simple games that use only a couple of buttons, and map one controller to the analog and one to the digital pad. But what if we wanted two player Street Fighter? This poses more of a problem. Any input is appreciated. -JC

I had a similar problem.  I was using two identical gamepads and they were both plugged in right next to each other on the front panel USB ports.  I moved one of them to the USB ports on the back of the computer and my problem went away.

The front ports plug into a different USB header on my mobo from the ones on the back; I can only assume this is what made the difference.

Weird. Well I have my wireless pad hooked to the rear, and I have been hooking the other wired pad to the front USB plate. I guess I'll have to take a look at how the machine handles the USBs, now that I know mame indeed will see two seperate controllers. Thanks for the input!

Kremmit is correct (as usual).  Identical gamepads should be hooked up to different USB buses.

Indeed, Kremmit, you are correct. I must have had both my wireless controller and the wired plugged to the front while I was testing. I have since moved the wireless inside the box using a USB extension cable from the back ports, and all is well. Thanks so much for the help.
