Gonna take the chance on this PCB repair service
« on: December 05, 2005, 05:58:39 pm »
Since I don't have the know how and  I don't want to screw this up beyond repair I'm gonna send this out for repair.  This guy has been timely responding to my questions and has a very good
feedback rating so I should be ok.

Not really.  :P The table has been covered with a sheet of cardboard and became a desk!  ;D  But only temporarily. When I finish my MAME cabI'll have room to re-arrange stuff and uncover the MC.

I'd say looking at this guy's feedback, your good to go.  Shame you couldn't get it going, but I think I would have done the same thing.  I don't mind doing a cap kit, but anything that complicated is to much for me.  Leave it to the expert who knows what to look for.  Let us know how it works out!

I bought a MsPac conversion board from him.  He's a very good seller.  I would think he would be a good person to deal with.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Mark, that makes me feel much better.  I shipped the board out yesterday and will have back sometime next week.  If I'll goes well, should have a good working machine next weekend.

Thanks

I've dealt with him in the past. He is a good guy and did a good job on my Pac PCB. He really knows his Pac boards.

check where your 5v and 12v are and then look at the board for indications of where 5v and 12v inputs go. It's also easy to find Ground pins (they tend to connect to almost everything).

Compare with pin-outs online.

Got it running, turned out to be a couple of blown fuses. ( that probably happened when I hooked the harness up backwards  :-X

Uh, dude, you'd better hope all it did was blow fuses.  Hooking up the harness backwards can blow a whole board.

The board is fine Chad......thankfully......when I first got the machine, I think I blew the fuses.  Since then sent the board out for repair and got it back yesterday.  Still didn't power up, so even if  I did have the harness backwards, no power was making it to the board.  I've sinced then replaced the fuses and have the harness on correctly and everything is working good with the exception of the monitor will need a cap kit and a width coil.

OMG. You are soo lucky. Pac Boards have all kinds of AC running through them.  Plug them in wrong and they will fry like an egg on an Alabama Highway in July.

My suggestion is that you now Mark that edge connector on the chip side ASAP, JIC.

Read my mind Fredster.  Already put a dab of whiteout on there ( all that was handy ).  hopefull the board won't ever come out again.

Thanks

You actually were LUCKY that the fuses were blown.  Had the fuses been active then those improperly set lines probably would have blown out much of your board.

The scary part Chad is this,

I think I actually hooked the harness up wrong initially while the fuses were still active, cuz I had somewhat of a picture when I first got the machine.  I think when I
hooked it up wrong that is what blew the fuse.  I got extremely lucky, chalk one up to ignorance on my part.
