Too much fun stuff to see - overload!
« on: November 20, 2005, 10:21:45 pm »
I'm sure someone here has visited this site, or knows about this, or has posted and I refuse to search for it, but I stumbled across this today and have literally wasted most of the day looking around at links of wicked cool stuff.

http://www.makezine.com/

This couldn't POSSIBLY be fascinating for you to click all of these links (unless you're Firefox-ing and open up new tabs) but this is a small sample of what I was looking at today.  Shut yer piehole, I already KNOW I coulda done better things and had no life today.

If you can't tell the following phrases are links, wise up ;)

Seen here before - hidden door in a bookcase

DIY Aeron Chair - tongue-in-cheek

Silencing your mouse

Making custom cardboxes

BAWLS Cold Cathode Lamp

The Apple iWipe - yes, just what it sounds like  :D

How to tie a WICKED knot!

Of particular use to us, send them what you want with the dimensions you require, they'll build it out of the materials you specify.  Cost is your problem ;D

Advanced Spud Gun creation

Duck Hunt Sniper Rifle

DIY Xerox High Speed Printer Shredder

Make a Smoker from a Trash Can

Trash Can Smoking a Turkey

Cubicle Wall Bike Rack

Envelope and Letter Folding

Vintage Projects and Plans

DIY Power Squid Outlet Multiplier

Portable Linux

Beer Can Padlock Shim - open a padlock

How someone made a carbon-fiber bike

Shrink a quarter or crush a can with magnetics

There's way more pages I looked at and am looking at, but MAN, this makes me think nobody has a reason NOT to build a cab if they're interested.  Some of the stuff I found makes what we do seem as easy as opening a door!

Enjoy

CRAP!

I was already trying to find out if B&N carries their mag or someone near me.  I've got 3 podcasts I can't keep up with (about a week and a half behind right now), and now you hafta go and tell me THAT?

It makes up for your suckitude about Mission's post count crusade.  Road trip back on.  Party on Wayne!

Oh, and I'm not sure, but I think shmokes might be the guy who dropped BYOAC's address on that site.  I think he mighta gotten sucked in there by the Pez dispenser MP3 player.  If not, I don't think he'd be interested in anything Pez.  Not shmokes.  Not at all.  Nothing to see there.  Keep it moving.  Don't do it shmokes.  I refuse to be blamed.

There's a similar magazine that I've been subscribed to for quite a while now...more hipster and interior design focused, but some cool ideas none-the-less.

Well, not many things looked into today.  I stumbled across my ex-wife a few days ago, and we've been catching up on stuff.  It wasn't the nicest separation (more likely by me, I was an ass hat then, thankfully, I changed into the person you couldn't imagine living without that I am today ;D ) but the divorce itself was fairly uneventful, and we parted fairly amicably.  I had planned to stay in touch, which never happened, but events transpired that led me to getting back in touch with me.  SHE, unbeknownst to me, had a line on a buddy of mine who I dropped out of touch with due to his becoming what I tried to become a few years earlier....which is what I've been investigating when I've been home tonight.

You may not find his site to be anything other than the ramblings of a person obviously insane for ever knowing an ass hat like me, but I figure I'll let you be the judge.  For the left amongst us, he's your type of guy.  Mebbe I just "knew" something was seriously wrong with him deep down ;)

www.bhood.com

Stingray, he rambles on endlessly about beer.  Mebbe he can help educate you on some new favorite....we just used to see how much of the substance we could pour down our gullets, now he's gone and gotten all "refined" and shizzle ;)

Seen here before - hidden door in a bookcase
This one is definately on my todo list when I finally move into my new house (around 5 months before its finished), this site also has some good info: http://www.garymkatz.com/Charts/pivot-bookcase.htm

I'm just planning on building it over the closet in the room I'm going to use as an office, pointless but I don't care.

And thanks to Jason, I've found a piece of jewelry I'd wear.  I HATE jewelry, to the point that I don't even do a watch.  Just my wedding band, THAT'S IT!

This, I can get on board with:

You need an mp3 player or an ipod then :)
I update my podcasts in the morning and listen to them at work on my free ipod.

I've got one.  Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra.  There's only so many hours in the day though.  2 podcasts are 3-hour deals, the other is a 1-hour, though that's one I'll blow off if the mood strikes me.  Add in catching most of B&B's show (96.9 up by you, Oshkosh, right?  Mornings until 10) and now they're ALSO podcasting.....crap.  When are the daisies who started Daylight Savings Time gonna add more hours to the day?

There's a bob and tom around here too.  I get them mixed up.  But yeah, one of them is on 96.9.

What podcasts you listen to?
I do
93X Half Assed Morning show stupid news (minniapolis station)
Basscast
Science @ NASA
TWiT
NPR daily story
errr, and some comedy one that currently isn't on my ipod.  But they only update like once a month.

I listen to Glenn Beck's, and Neal Boortz's, although Boortz isn't a podcast, I record the stream and convert it, along with Michael Savage.  I usually condense his stuff down to an hour.

I'm guessing nothing anyone would wanna listen to if they're even close to liberal.  Although I've gotten 3 lefty buddies to listen to Beck, they can't stand Savage for some reason, and think Boortz is oftentimes more nuts than my views.

Any Bob & Tom fans please stop reading.

I think those 2 clowns suck, and the only reason they're as popular as they are is the bits their guests do.  Their incessant laughing at crap that isn't even REMOTELY funny wears on me after 10 or so minutes.  Bob & Brian strike me as what it'd be like to hear Stingray and Chad do a radio show, although I don't think they'd be AS funny as B&B, it's a "many different forks in the road" show, and seems to meander about as much as a thread in EE.
