I've been saying for 25 years that they should only be allowed to make air guns in colors like green and orange, but you should not have to register them.

When I was a kid I had an air gun that was nearly visually indistinguishable from a real .22 if you were more than 15 feet away.  There's no need for Police to have to ever consider "do I have to kill that kid" because he doesn't understand the consequences of walking around with a rifle.

I've still got mine. It's blued steel and real wood. You can't tell it isn't a .22 unless you're looking at the opening it the barrell. It would be seriously dangerous to let a kid have something like that now.

In Chicago the gang members paint their real guns bright colors.  It doesn't matter though, because the Chicago police don't know the difference between a cell phone and a gun.  If you really want your kids to be safe from the Chicago police, instead of painting their toy guns bright colors, you need to paint your kids white.

Or, how about being a good parent, and not buying your kids toy guns.

Air guns can be more lethal than .22 rifles.  If they made that point they'd have a decent argument, instead they say they want to kick down the doors of the houses with bb guns, every time somebody shoots a window.

With that kind of thinking they might as well register all bricks too.

Or at least teach them what they should and shouldn't do with them.

example 1) Don't walk the streets of Chicago with an airgun that looks like an uzi.
example 2) Don't shoot your eye out.

Air guns more lethal than .22?

That's like saying a gummy bear can be more lethal than rat poison.

Cooter:

Step 1 is to convince them not to buy the guns.  It is more likely than asking them to teach their children something.

True.

If only there was some type of registration/certification required before becoming a parent... I honestly think ~75% of people have no idea what being a parent really means.

...and that's why they don't want to make that point.  It would numb the ignoramus's fear for guns if they knew a bb rifle was as lethal as a .22.

But it is not.  I used to kill things with my .22 that I could never have killed with my air rifle if I had shot it 20 times and then beat it about the head.

I do know that if I'm wearing shoes I can shoot myself in the foot with a BB gun and barely feel it. Who wants to try that with a .22?

I shot my cousin in the back of the head with a BB gun pumped up HARD once.  He was about 8 feet away.  He chased me down the street and threw me off the railroad bridge.

Care to repeat that with a .22?

I have to provide my name, driver's license number and signature to buy Sudafed, and people are complaining about having to provide info to buy a gun (albeit a low powered one)?  Spare me.

New plan: loading a BB gun with Sudafed.  That'll show 'em.

What's scary is that slowly, step by step, we are moving toward an Orwellian state of Big Brother watching everything we do.

This BB Gun registering proposal is the same ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- non-logic used by the anti-gun nuts.  With hundreds of thousands of air rifles in existence in the US, do you really think the guy with the brand-new registered BB gun is the one shooting out windows?  Of course not - it's the guy who stole one out of somebody's house.

The problem is - the cops and judicial system aren't out trying to find those guys and punish them for breaking the law - they want to come harass the law-abiding guy with the registered gun because he's an easy target.

More laws are not the answer - enforcement of the current laws would be a good start.

Note that you could do that by simply throwing.

Pub darts are as lethal as a .22.

So are high velocity pez.

I guess we can conclude that any moving object is as lethal as a .22.

People who use .22s drink water.  Water is directly linked to the use of a .22.

Water is as lethal as a .22.

bah it won't even break the skin

I spent an hour digging one out of a friends hand as a kid. We had bb gun wars in an abandoned quarry against the kids in the next town. there would be like 50 kids total!

My friend took one at point blank, and it went right into the meat between forefinger and thumb. It was our last bb gun war :'(

At point blank, a slice of stale bread can break the skin.

I once gave a friend 22 stitches to his mouth from a piece of stale Bazooka gum.
Pickaxes are dangerous, axes are dangerous, NAIL GUNS ARE DANGEROUS...
but no one has to register any of those..

I have no problems with having to register your spoons.

They are the undisputed weapon of choice of every cereal killer in history

No, I broke my friend's nose with an NES controller after he "accidentally" reset the console while losing for about the 45th time that night.

If you strike a person in the nose with pinballjim, their nose will be at least as damaged as it would have been with a .22 shot from a downward, grazing angle.

pinballjim is as lethal as a .22 at point blank range.

If I wanted to take pics of my own wife I'd have already done so, or some other "take my wife please" joke here.
