Paint CP.  Question :  Should these be powerd coated or should they be sprayed with hammered paint also.

Replace a 1 ft section of tmolding

add molding to bottom edges ( chipped wood, rest off wood in
good shape.

I'm estimating 250-300.00 including shipping to restore this

Actually, Rust-Oleum textured paint is almost an exact match to the original finish.

I would but my molding skills suck, the sides would be easy, but I can just see myself butchering the panels.  Thanks for the advice on paint.

I would think the new molding would stand out brightly next to the old, faded, smoke absorbed molding.

Replace all or none, basically, I don't think it works to replace only a bit unless it's black.  Even then it can be sketchy.

Point taken, the piece that is missing is the back half  which wouldn'tbe as noticemball, but I didn't take into account the fading issue.  guess i'll do the whole thing, but that 1 1/2" molding scares me....I think that is the size on top

Actually, I just re-read this thread, and you make no mention either way.  I just assumed.

Molding is pretty much the same no matter the size.  Just make sure you notch around the corners, otherwise it won't work.

You could clean up the corner, make some form work outta cardboard and use good ole BONDO to fill it(applying it layers).    Insert some dowel or screws into the damaged edge, before applying the BONDO, to help give the bondo a solid link to the main side.

You could even neatly cut off the edge and dowel (biscuit) a new piece on.

Bondo is the way to fix that corner.  It's not a big enough piece of damage to cut out and replace with a new piece of wood.

I can understand the bondo to repair the corner, but how would I blend the color in ?   That is the part I'm not getting.

You could install 4 of those corner protectors (if you don't mine it not looking the way it originally did)

Great call Ray.....I actually thought about those and was pondering, but wanted to go a more authentic route first, the as luck would have it, I stopped by a pizza parlor today to grab some grub and the had a galaga cocktail table with the protectors...didn't look bad at all

Yup, that's it.
It might look fine. They come in Black right? And Black is what you have around the top of the unit.
