Check out my Joust decal!

Hey this is what I just did today. It's about 18 inches tall. And I know the W is missing from the yellow circle. I messed it up while installing it. Looks pretty good if you ask me.

Not bad at all.

Did you buy the stencil, or print one from another source?

Neither, it's a vinyl cut decal. It's 3 pieces and I had to overlay the other 2 colors.

I'm _TOTALLY_ doing a variant of the Joust logo for the cab I'm building, and I'm thinking of going the cut vinyl route (I'm doing all my cab art in those three colours).

HOW did you get the registration lined up right? That's the one thing that terrified me. How do you get it precise?

I actually eyedballed layering the 3 pieces. I think it turned out very well. It is off in a few spots, but for doing a quick job, I'm very satisified with it. I'll post another pic of it with my kids standing by it for size comparison.

Very cool.  You could do a lot with that vinyl cutter.  You should do some of the other "icons" of classic vids (Galaga ship, Defender ship, Ms. Pac, Mario or DK, etc.) and offer them up as gameroom decorations.  I know I would be in for a set.

Thanks for the good coments. If I can get the images for other characters I'll be making them also. So be on the lookout for others as well. Anyone have any suggestion on what they would like?

I've got all of the space invaders already. I'm working on the galaga ship right now. And I have one of the robotron guys also. Just got to get them cleaned up. Will post when I have them ready.

If anyone can help me with the images, I'll be glad to make anything you want. I just need the images in an eps format that will cut. I'm not good enough or have the time to play with illustrator.

You can get the Robotron guy at the vector library.  Nothing to clean up that way.  Same with Ms Pac, Donkey Kong, ghosts and Centipede.  Most are in Illustrator or EPS format.  Very easy to cut from once you break the characters away from the marquee or CPO or whatever you grab them from.

Centipede:

Someone was also working on Moon Patrol, not sure if it is done yet.  There are tons of other simple (low color count) characters on there as well.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the files there are still not ready to cut. They need to be saved a different way and I can;t get them to save correctly. Pixelhugger usually does it for me but he has been extremely busy lately. Actually I need to find out from him what exactly he does when he saves or converts them for me.

If you have Illustrator just open the file and save it as an EPS.
File -> Save As ->
Change "Save Type As" to EPS
Hit Ok
Change Compatibility to version 7 or 8 (my preference to increase compatibility with older programs)
Hit Ok again.
That should do it.  What program are you cutting with?
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Personally, I would rather see you do more of the game characters, ships, etc. as they're seen on the screen, rather than the marquee or sideart (like you did with the space invader).

For example, I would rather see this:

Instead of this:

I would like it to look like the game is playing on my wall, rather than the look of a bunch of marquees on the wall.

Thats all I am wanting to do is the characters. The Marquees would be way to much work to do with vinyl. It would be possible but just not worth it.

What characters you guys looking for?  I have space invaders, Galaga Ships, Ms pac man, working right now on Asteroids (the ship, some shots and a few rocks) and the next one is a Tempest kit..  all gameroom wall art stuff..    I'm also starting to produce plotter cut stencils for arcade machines, so far Taito, Joust and Stargate are done and I can sell those.
