Replacing a storm door
« on: November 18, 2005, 04:26:37 pm »

I have a long line of home projects I've tried on my house that mostly ended up craptacular.

I need to replace a storm door.

How hard is this, really?  For some reason I fear that it will come out badly.

This project falls under the pretty easy catagory IMO. Even I can do it. Best I recall, all I needed was my cordless drill and a couple of screwdriver bits.

Shouldn't be bad at all, assuming you're planning on replacing it with another storm door of the same dimensions and not something like, say, an elephant...  An elephant would entail far more work, and the results are generally less than spectacular.

Hanging doors is easy...  Just be sure to double check your measurements.

You might need a jig saw with a metal cutting blade.

If you have to install the frame, it's a new level of pain, but otherwise easy.

If you can't replace your storm door, you'd better sell off all your pins and anything that has an electrical cord, since it's only a matter of time before you shock yourself to death.

It'll take more actual TIME to do this than actual WORK, but unless you're BUILDING a new storm door (which you'd still be able to do - it's nice to make something yourself that beautifies a house from the OUTSIDE too....I've got an article if you want to give that a go), budget 2 hours for this, and when you get done early, use the extra time to congratulate yourself with several dozen downings of your favorite libation.

Reading the directions beforehand (since you've never done this before) will make the process quicker and identify any possible tools you'll need to round up before starting.
You’re always in control of your behavior. Sometimes you just control yourself
in ways that you later wish you hadn’t
