Seriously, all this article is about is a guy who wants 1.2mil for his property.

I want 1.2mil for mine, too, but don't think anyone would pay it.

If it SOLD for 1.2mil, that is a story, but some guy asking for 1.2mil?  Clearly, it has not sold...

The size of his property is nothing but IF its part of this bigger development plan.  The developers might be force to pay $$$ for it.

But of course I've seen it backfire and the developers just build AROUND that property.

This is pretty much where the new usage of Eminent Domain is going to eff this guy in the behind.  They won't pay him $1.2mil, they'll just have the city seize the land from him.

One of my wife's business associates was offered $6M for his property - it being the only parcel left the developer needed to continue with building a retail center.  He said "Double it and you've got a deal" for the hell of it and found himself looking for a new place to live within 30 days.  A bit richer, too.

they have a simpler solution in Russia. They have embraced capitalism whole-heartedly. it turns out that if your house were to burn down and you dont have the right insurance (or none at all) then you dont even own the land it was built on anymore! property developers there have been buying a lot of petrol and matches lately...

What's the difference to here?  We don't own it in the US either.  The gov't can take it if they want, we have to pay the gov't every year to retain "ownership" rights...
