Stupid Computer Problem
« on: November 03, 2005, 06:14:00 pm »
This might belong in software, but since it really isn't about arcade Software, and just about my stupid home PC, I figure its better of in EE. A

Anyway, I have had a dual boot system Win98/XP for the last 3 years. For the last 2, the 98 directory has been deleted.  So,  IOW, I don't use the 98. The problem is,  it boots off the C drive, and XP is on the E drive. I can't just plug the drive that is currently E to be the Primary master, because it is missing the MBR, REM, whatever.  Is there a way to scrap whatever is on C, and put something on E so it can be set to primary master? This crap is pissing me off. Every time I mess with the drive config, it won't boot, unless the XP drive is 3rd ranked HD in the system. Ugh.

I would if I could figure out how I'm still getting free Norton Live update.

If you want it to boot off the E:\

Unhook C
Hook E as main
Put in XP cd (assuming its XP)
Command Line Repair
at that command, type
Fixmbr
press enter
type
Fixboot
press enter
reboot pc

Done..

Now that that's solved....

How do I remove a selection from that startup menu?  I installed XP twice (once with wrong activation, 2nd time right one), and I have two "microsoft windows xp" choices.

Just keep running this as an application.  If it's not fixed the first time, keep running it.  It may take several applications before your problem is fixed, or at least you feel better ;D
