  • Need To Finish Up My Cabinet!
My SimpsonCade
« on: October 15, 2005, 07:37:20 pm »
I have heavily debated rather to put my art online or not, as I know that as soon as I do, someone will no doubt use it for themselves. (I just like having something DIFFERENT!)

My friend and I have been working on my cabinet for quite a while now.

I am posting the marquee just to get some comments - I already had it printed up professionally and it looks GREAT.

If you cannot tell in the picture, by the way, here is the list:

Homer as Donkey Kong
Marge as the Donkey Kong Girl (No idea what her name is!)
Carl as Mario
Lenny as Luigi
Bart and Milhouse as the Double Dragon Brothers (Or any other fighter)
Dolph, Kearney, Jimbo, and Nelson as the Pacman Ghosts
Comic Book Guy as Pacman
Martin as Dirk (Dragon's Lair)
Princess Kashmir as Daphne (Dragon's Lair)
Mr. Burns as Singe (Dragon's Lair)
Maggie and Lisa as Bub and Bob (Bubble Bobble)
Also, notice Itchy and Scratchy in the bubbles
And - Moe as Frogger

I am happy with the outcome and have been interested to hear some opinions.

Thanks,

-IceCreamGuys

Original idea - We thought it up and put it down on paper, litteraly.

Here is a close up of Moes head to give you a better idea of detail

(Still small file, though)

I love the custom graphics. Martin Prince is hilarious. My only constructive comment is that I would have made everything bigger -- particularly the text. There's alot of negative space in there and you have plenty of room to work with.

I would have made everything bigger -- particularly the text.

Tough area - Trying to make 19 Simpson Characters fit into a 30X8 graphic without looking too cluttered. Unfortunatly, I still feel it is a bit cluttered.

I tried to leave a little 'Breathing' room.

I am still considering posting my Side Art - I think it is better than the Marquee.

Thanks for the comments!

Can I make a suggestion?

The only critisism I can lay on it is there is too much plain background.....which is why I'm suggesting the following:-

Personally, I think Homer needs to be bigger or as big as Monty burns on the right.

I would try to centre the text slightly and perhaps make it a tad bigger.

Then again try and make all the characters bigger proportionately together to fill the space as much as possible.

Which may make you realise which characters to remove if you still think its cluttered.

Also did you realise there is a proper Simspons font you could use?

I used the Akbar font for quite a few things within my Cabinet, but on the graphics it just didn't have the look I wanted.

The font that my buddy drew fits the style of the cabinet.

Thanks for the comments. I might reprint my Marquee at some point.

Might look better if you put the famous Simpsons Clouds in the background?  Just a thought

Akbar as far as I know only supports UPPER CASE, there is however a font that allows both Lower and Upper case simply called Simpson Font

Found here http://www.dafont.com/en/font.php?file=simpsonfont

Does that help?

Also the above idea of clouds maybe good....if you use transparency

Here is what I meant just having a very quick bash...I also used the Simpson font above to create the text which I also put a drop shadow on.

Hey, IceCreamGuys

GREAT job on the marquee. I love the characters.

Some constructive criticism: I don't personally like the single line of characters at the bottom; it's makes the whole thing look too plain. I think it would look better if you centered the text and scattered the characters around the text while keeping the characters from the same game together. Maybe rotated each a bit in a random fashion. I think this will help fill up the space.

I thought about making a mini Simpsons cab for my kids. I'd love to use this artwork. I understand how you want your cab to be unique, but please post the artwork for the greater good of cab builders everywhere

My first reaction was the same as already stated. Too much empty space. Also, don't be afraid to overlap!! It creates depth.

Here's an example using overlapping, less empty space and a few other extras (gradient backgrounds work wonders)

NO MORE!!

RayB,

Have to say that works really well! Exactly what I had in mind to be honest. The only thing that comes to mind is either using the existing text or changing it to using the Simspons font I linked above.

Other than that it looks 200% better!

it does look much better but I think you still need the clouds.

PS: You need Flanders, Apu, Smithers and Chief Wiggums if you can think of ways to include them.  Smithers I could see as some small creature on the dragon's shoulder...

This looks almost perfect - all it needs is the real "Simpsons font" and it will look great...

Now that I've decided not to make the cabinet for lack of decison making.

You lazy git!  ;D

Yoke - Comic Book Guy as Vader, Burns as Emporer
Homer laying down eating a row of donuts
3D Homer on motorcycle (Tron style)
Willie as the Ghosts and Goblins knight (that is a perfect fit!)
Moe as the Tapper bartender (perfect)
Ikari Warriors characters - McBain & Homer/Bart
Ape Homer throwing nuclear waste barrels from the nuke plant
Lisa as the princess (from Mario)
Marge as Daphne, Homer as Dirk (or Apu and wife, or Teacher and Principle Skinner)
Sideshow Bob as the Space Invaders monster (or Homer see my sig)
Smithers as the unicycle guy (forgot the name of the balloon game, but another perfect fit)
3 Eyed Frog from Frogger
Bumblebee man as Qbert
Wiggums as the Elevator Action or Hogan's Alley character
Millhouse as Balloon Fight, Bomb Jack or Burgertime character
Group vs group SF or X-Men style

OOoooo yes! those would be amazing if vectorised! Ya lazy git!  ;D

Other ideas.  Trying to put a donut into a clear trackball.  Or put the main character's heads into clear balltop handles.

Yes! that would be really cool! Ya lazy git!  ;D

Well that was some of my ideas but unfortunately I'm too lazy to get  the artwork done.

Mmmmmm, dont disagree with that statement! Ya lazy git!  ;D
