Newbie: Volume adjust on PCB, how and any dangers
« on: October 22, 2005, 05:18:59 am »
Hi

Im a newbie just getting into collecting pcbs for my jamma cabinet.

Im starting with all my old favourites and have just aquired Konamis Track and Field (Hyper Olympic).  Ive installed it in the cab and it seems to work ok but its just too damn load, the walls are shaking.  How can i adjust the volume as it appears to be the board not the cab as other games are ok.  Ive been onto klov and printed the manual but i cant see anything about volume.

Secondly I know there are dangers with the monitor but is there any shock hazzard when handling the pcbs.  Obviously i disconnect the cab mains plug first

All help is greatly appreciated

With the power off, examine your board and look for a little white "block" with a round part in the top and it will have either a + shape groove or a - groove. (IN otherwords it will look either like the top of a phillips screw, or like the top of a flathead crew). This should be your volume knob.

Now you can either adjust it there and then power on to see how loud it is, or you can power on and very carefully adjust it while it's playing sound, but just be careful not to slip and touch anything with the screwdriver. There's no risk of big deathly shock if you touch something on the board (it'll be a mild shock if any) but you do risk damaging parts.

I actually use my fingernail to adjust the volume. Less chance of a tool slipping and touching parts.

NO MORE!!

think track and field has two boards - the smaller one on the top is the sound board. there should be a variable resister (volume pot) on it that you can adjust with a small screw driver.
