Well, I KNOW there's gotta be a few guys here who play poker, and I stumbled upon a Build Your Own Poker Table site that spawned several others, so here you go.

Link 1 - http://www.homepokertourney.com/tables.htm

Same site, more tables

One of the nicer tables, I think:

And I especially like this guy's table at this site, even though he's Canadian ;)

    * Pencil
    * Tape Measure

Well do you have enough miles saved up to get everyone a table then?  You just be quiet over there you braggin' fool.   ;)

'S funny, my buddy JUST called and we set up the 28th for poker night, and I made the mistake of telling him about those sites.  Now I'm helping him build one ::)  Sure, he didn't tell me I'm helping, but he asked to borrow my tools and said his wife would help him with the material and whatnot.  Why not just TELL me I've gotta help instead of hiding it in all that jibberish :D

Hey, how far are you from Charlotte?  I seem to remember you being closer to there than Durham, and we try to head back during winter months here, although this year it's leaning towards visiting relatives in Nebraska.

I know you're thinking "why head to Nebraska, which ain't gonna be all THAT much warmer than WI, when you could come to NC".

Anyone who's married already knows the answer to this question ::)

Hey, how far are you from Charlotte?

I'm just outside Asheville......

so it's not too far a ride...

Sweet!  We have been to Ridgecrest before, and have excuses to take weekend trips there if the planning is right, but planning it around an auction would be just as nice!

I enjoy poker and games of chance, but am against gambling, which makes it really hard to find people to play with.

just play nickel, dime quarter stuff:

Everyone cashes in $10 for chips

25 white @ 5 cents
25 red @   10 cents
25 blue @  25 cents

BYOB, dealer calls game, dealer rotates clockwise after each hand, play till your out of chips or everyone calls it a night.

nickel ante 50 cent maximum bet/raise

The most your out is $10 (which hardly ever happens) and we don't consider it gabling, we are just paying for a good time.

for example if you went out to a bar, the movies, a strip club, pretty much anything you'd end up spending more than you would by just buying a case of beer, some snacks and the $10 you might lose playing some cards..........

The concept is good, but the idiots I hang out with would ---smurfette--- about the amounts all night.  It wouldn't work.

Plus, I'd hear crap like "you'll put $10 on poker, but not $175 on fantasy football?  What a joke" all night.

McCoy, is that pedestal leg a prefab unit, or did you build it from scratch?  If you built it from scratch, any chance of laying out how you did it?  I'd think a 4x post run through your tablesaw to make the octagon and have something to nail/screw into and miter each side, but I've seen 'em done with a hollow core, so I'm almost hoping you scratch-built that and have another idea!

RayB, you'll have to find your own portable toilet.  I heard Pope Stingray goes in the woods, so mebbe he's got some tips ;)

I did scratch build the whole thing.  I took a 1x4 and cut it at 12.5 degrees(I think?).  I then used a biscuit joiner to connect them.

Complete pics can be found here:

www.ohiostate.photosite.com

I didn't see anything on building the pedestal, but that certainly helps.  Thanks!

Is that single pedestal fairly stable for you?  I did see the larger foot attached, but I wondered with guys leaning on the table and whatnot.

It is amazingly stable.  It was a big concern when I built the table, but I didn't want to have the chairs hitting the base.  It worked very well.  I have not had one close call.  Wait, let me measure..............
Ah yes, the base is 22 inches across.  BTW, I made everything with a router, table saw, and chop saw.  My next endeavor is to make some racetrack style tables.

Yeah, I'm looking at your pedestals and that's the exact reason I was so interested in 'em.  I'm thinking a racetrack-style table with two pedestals and a stretcher between them, ala a trestle table, would be a SWEET setup!

Dude, why would you be in the woods?  Your dog certainly isn't gonna protect you, unless being an hors d'oeuvre for whatever's about to eat YOU is considered protection.

It might get stuck in a bears throat long enough to distract it while you scramble up a tree... a tree that might conceivably be used as lumber to build your own poker table.

If you're in the woods and a bear is going to make a nice lunch of you, and you HAPPEN to get away from said bear and climb up a TREE.....you deserve the mauling that will ensue.  That tree would probably end up being used as a toothpick to remove those bits of YOU stuck in the bear's teeth
