However, other than the cosmetic upgrades, it doesn't have a whole lot going for it.

What's the difference between that and any other 3D game?

Game manufacturers bring out new games ever year just to take advantage of new hardware, new 3D engines, and new bling factor.  Game reviewers salivate over the latest graphics, and any game producer's website dedicates whole chunks of their bandwidth to advertising how great the game *looks*.

Just like hollywood, the gaming industry only cares about looking good and making sales.  Who cares if the kiddies don't play it for 12 months?  In fact, it's better if it only gets a few days/weeks play, as that way they'll be spending more money sooner on another abysmal game.

Good 3D games are an exception in this day and age.  Yes, there are some "modern classics" that I can mention, but the vast majority are tripe.  I'm still playing games that are 10-15 years old because they haven't made anything better since.

Isn't it only on PS2?  That blows...

The graphics don't look any better than SC2 on Xbox imo tho.

Personally I really enjoy this title with an arcade stick.  It feels perfect.  Yeah they didnt add much from release, but then again.  Did they really have too?  They added new characters.  They refined the graphics, control tightness, and the AI.  They added a create a character.  Its pretty good honestly.  Its not as deep as a wrestling title or some other fighters.  However, you can tweak the characters infinitly and keep adding new and better items.

The fact is that the game IS better than SC2.  It has more variety.  Big deal if the single player isnt as well done as SC2.  Everyone buys it to play 2 player.  The single player was at least deeper than a standard arcade fighter.  You don't see people up in arms because street fighter 3s story mode wasnt as robust as ffx.  Come on.

The real reason behind it being PS2 only is a contract.  Sony paid Namco big bucks to not allow anyone else the rights to SC3.  They didnt even release it in the arcades first this time around.  Eventually it will see itself re-released on all systems as "Soul Calibur 3:  Extra Crispy" then thats where they make their real money.

I disagree.  The mission mode in SC was awesome (probably one of the best for a fighter?).  The equivalent in SC2 is good but probably not as good as the original.  If if is worse in SC3 I'd be pretty disappointed (if I had a PS2).

The original SC did have the best mission mode.  I grant you that.  ;)  I still think as a whole that SC3 is a better game.  However that is the opinion of a single man.  Everyones opinions are going to differ, but I personally have found this title to being played more often in my own house than SC2.

I'm really enjoying this game, I've been playing it exclusively since I got it.

I think it's a great improvement mainly because the added characters from past games...However it seems as if they've messed around with the control layout.

I play this on my PS2 cab and it rocks!! I really like the create a character mode. They need to come out with a nude patch for this game though. Nothing beats naked girls fighting with weapons.  :D

I loved the first soul caliber, liked the second one, and so far I really like this one.  I definately think its better then 2.  I know I'm in the minority, but I actually like the single player campaign, not the individual stories for each characters because thats the same for every char and gets boring, but the rpg/rts one.  One thing thats crazy in this game is the number of characters and unlockables.  So far I have a total of 34 characters, not including create-a-characters, and who knows how many more there are.  And theres at least 18 weapons for the create-a-characters, many of which are completely new weapons and those that aren't new have different moves then the regular char.

I think, in my opinion anyway, this may be the best soul caliber yet.

However i sadly agree... there are a few company's who do not just make the same game but with better graphics.

Half-life 2 is just one example, great great game with much more then better graphics. It seems to me that the smaller company's who need to make a mark to get their game sold will go the extra mile and do the damn thing right.  The large and established guys do try to pass off junk, that is where i agree.

Anyone find the little mini game quest quite boring?  I would like to make a couple of cool characters, but it's hard to sit down and see a little guy beat up a building for 3 minutes, then go to a fight, then do it all over again.
