Utopia VGA?
« on: August 07, 2005, 10:56:00 pm »
Is one of the Utopia boot disks (DC) VGA compat? The one I have (I don't think it's the newest) complains about my VGA box. Is the newest one (1.5 I think) VGA compatible or should I seek an alternate bootloader?

All of the utopia discs will boot VGA, you just need to set your vgabox switch to "TV" first, power on with utopia (you won't see any picture on your computer monitor), wait till the disc stops, put the switch to "PC" and swap the discs.

Making your dreamcast discs self booting takes a little more than a patch, and not all games will work as selfbooting.

It isn't really all that hard to do, but unless it is a game you plan on using quite often, it prolly isn't worth the effort, when it works just fine with the utopia discs.

Here is an even easier way.  Go to this page:

http://www.megagames.com/dc/dc_utils_bootcd.shtml

Dowload the following utility:  BIN2Boot GUI v0.1 beta

If you still have the image file of your game, just drag and drop it into the GUI and it will make a self-booting image of your game in the same directory.

Of course, if the game doesn't support VGA to begin with, then that is another problem.  But at least your games will self boot.
