My first cabinet WIP (yet unnamed)
« on: November 29, 2005, 10:02:59 am »
After months of contemplating and reading various message boards, but mostly BYOAC, I've decided to take the plunge and try to build my own cabinet.

Now I'm a total newb when it comes to woodworking, metalworking, electrical circuits, ... but I guess I'm not the only one who started out like that :)

I've pretty much decided on my cabinet plan, losely based on a KI cab. Thanks to jakobud for plans

I haven't decided on a theme yet. I was a huge fan of MK2 back in college, so I might do a MK based theme.

Things to do:
Talk to my friendly neighbour with mini  truck (camionette like we call it here) and drive to local woodshop to pick up 3 MDF boards and some 2x4s and screws.

Here's a little side pic of my cabinet on a 122/244cm MDF board

About the monitor, at first I was thinking of getting a new arcade monitor from Hantarex.
I asked for their prices, and they're a bit too pricey for me atm.

A new 25" would cost about 450 Euro (about 550$)
I think I'll settle for a 70cm TV for this cab, which is about 27-28"

I found this used TV for 70 Euro, nice price imo.

I've contacted seller and asked for dimentions since it will have to fit in my cab.
Looking at my cabinet plan, I might have to redo it since it doesn't leave a lot of room for TV (like 50cm depth)

I like those Midway type cabs, good luck with the project.

I'd like to find a nice original MK cab and NOT MAME it up.
