Lazarus help needed
« on: December 29, 2002, 07:13:24 pm »
I'm having a few problems with setting up lazarus and have no idea where else to look for help.  There seems to be 2 main problems.  The first, i'm trying to set up lazarus on 2 systems.  Both are running windows xp pro.  Lazarus will boot on 1, but not the other.  The one that doesn't boot gives me a runtime error stating the rmoc360.dll isn't registered or something along those lines.  My other problem is that on the working system, i cannot get lazarus to find my roms.   When it searches for roms, it also returns a runtime error.  This started after i removed some of the catagories for the   other emulators.  I.E.  i removed the entry for raine in the dirs.ini.  At first, all the other catagories after that were empty, but when i ran the the scan for roms app, they all dissapeared.  I've tried reinstalling lazarus, creating new masterlists, etc, but to no avail.  If anyone could offer any help i would greatly appreciate it.  I'd be interested to see some other peoples dirs.ini files and some other files.  I really like this front end, but it does me no good if i can't get it to work.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

First let me apologize.  I'm not to familiar with this message board and didn't realize the search sucks.  I searched for lazarus on the boards and it only returned posts.  However i have since discovered the numerous posts about lazarus on here.  From that i fixed my first problem by installing realplayer on my second machine.  However i'm still having trouble with the roms.  Basically i'd like to get rid of the extra menu catagories in the interface.  I.E. there's Newest Games, capcom collection, data east, mame, fighters, etc.  I want to get rid of the Ultra 64, daphne, raine, modeler, zinc, and final burn listings.  The last time i removed those from the dirs.ini, no roms would be listed in any catagores that appear after taito.  Not sure what the problem there is.  Then after some playing around i lost all the games and could get lazarus to list any of them.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I'd also appreciate some links to known working .dat files in case that has something to do with my problem.  Thanx in advance.

First off make sure the search strings in your lazarus.ini are using proper syntax and that those you removed are completely gone.  As in no stray lines.

Secondly as of the last two versions lazarus sets up the mame dats automatically.  In other words don't put a mame.dat in your dats folder.  Make sure in your dirs.ini you have a search string setup to search for "5=MAME" and that part is taken care of.
Now go to the cfgs folder and check your mame.cfg to make sure it it's pointing to where you have mame installed.  Btw if you are using a guied version of mame then it won't work as they audit roms differently.

I hope that helps, most of the rest of this stuff is in the documentation if you have some other mnor questions.

Much thanx.  Turns out the problem was with me having added a dat to the dat folder.  Once i removed that, it was smooth sailing.  Thanx for providing us with this awesome FE.  Thanx again for your help.
