Help: Nintendo vs dual machine (Cocktail)
« on: September 16, 2005, 07:07:31 pm »
Hey guys,

My name is Nick and I am an arcade collector from sydney australia.

I have recently purchased a nintendo vs dual system and am struggling to find any information on the net about them. So i have about a million questions :)

Firstly, the chip with the heatsink on it, i'm assuming is the PPU. Is this unique to all games? My cab is currently running vs tennis, if i swap it to say vs baseball can i use the same PPU? I'm very confused in this matter as it is not very well documented anywhere i can find.

The coin mech and coin path in my machine was taken out to make way for australian parts and i am currently in the process of restoring it back. If anyone has any pics/info on this stuff it would really help.

Is there a place that sells NOS control panel overlays or reproductions?

Finally if any has any good sites for information, or just anything else they would like to add on the matter, i would really like to hear it.

Cheers

main chip. with heat sink must be changed with each game.
comes with eather a piggy back board or a chip alone.
all chips are numberd not hard to replace. (well you can break a leg off the chip if you are not carefull)

I just got a new set of CP overlays off ebay. I lucked out. both sides for $25 or $30 US Dollars. been watching them for a year or two. Most times they go for $25.00 each.

I will try to rember to take a pic of the coin mechs

there is a CP overlay on sale now. will fit eather side. that is if yours looks like mine.
1 BIG MOTHER $%^&*$ . two monitors , V shaped cab, monitor on each side.

My understanding of the ppu was that some games actually will run off the same chip ie tko boxing and excite bike. But if you use a differnt ppu, you will get the wrong colours.

I find that when i search on ebay, i have to try alot of variations of my search. Sometimes just 'nintendo' or 'vs', or maybe even 'mario'. Because alot of people who list the items, themselves don't totally know what they are.

My system is actually the 'red tent' version, but the all the internals are mostly the same, so the coin mech's are probably still the same.

Other then games, i'm really after a host of different unusual bits and pieces off the machine. I managed to get lucky the other day and get some vg condition nintendo style buttons, now i am after bits and pieces like the plastic coin rejects etc. By the time i am finished i probably will have had a whole other system sent over part by part :)
