My first experience with partypoker.com
« on: July 08, 2005, 12:20:46 am »
Well I'm not naive enough to think I'll always come out on top, but I'm wondering if maybe I haven't found a new way to partially pay for my arcade hobby.  :)

I'd never tried before, but I started tonight with $50 and ended with $75. Not bad for a first-timer, I'd say.

I was playing the smallest tables, but I was just trying it out. I don't have enough guts to go to more expensive tables. Maybe some day.

Anybody else tried online poker?

Are you playing with REAL money or fake money? Easy to win a mint when playing with fake money because you'll be playing to win, while half the other guys will just be messing around.

That was $25 of real money. I decided to try a real game after winning $3000 in fake money.

I play pacific poker, I go up and down, basically not ever getting anywhere.  I play alot of 6 man 10 dollar tournaments.

My brother is alot better than I am, kid reads up on the game non stop, and has one a $1600  tournament, and several smaller ones, but he also goes to the real casino and plays with about 150 bucks anight buy in.

not really sure that helps you any though

Oh ya, I was gonna say, he has played ALOT of the sites online with real money.

I've been playing for about a month or so at pokerroom.com.  I put in $200 at the beginning, I've been up, I've been down.  Currently I have had a stretch of bad cards so I am down to a fraction of that.  I've played the regular ring games, sit and go tournaments and regular tournaments, and have jumped between limit and no limit.  Not sure if I will deposit more if I end up loosing the rest of the $200.

I don't trust online poker at all.  Seems to me that it'd be full of sharks and shills with no way to tell of opposing players are communicating with each other, or for that matter with the house.

After going there, I highly suggest you run an anti-spyware program...

Yeah partypoker.com has an external client, too. My connection at home kinda sucks so I kept getting disconected, but that's no fault of the client. Sure beats trying to play through through a java applet.

There are 3rd Party programs that will run in parallel with partypoker.com and calculate the odds of your winning that hand based on what you have in the hole and what you have showing.

Unless you strongly believe in luck, I wouldn't play with real money at partypoker.com.

well any serious poker player knows the percentages roughly, especially if you watch poker on TV regularly. i wouldnt say thats much of an advantage, maybe a disadvantage if you dont know them

I agree, but I've decided I'll never host a poker night at my place. For some reason, that always seems to be the first person out for us.  :)

I just don't like to host because the games last for ever.  Last time I played it was 4 people and it lasted from 9pm till 2 in the morning.  Some guys I work woth played one night till 5 in the morning.
