Latest ebay scam?
« on: June 28, 2005, 03:32:04 pm »
Is this the latest ebay scam?  Lately my watch notices have been coming in a different language.  One came in german the other day.  Today in chinese.  Or is it a glitch in ebay's system?

The watches are correct.  It is a product I am watching that is about to finish.  No, I did not use any of the emails.  I went straight to my ebay to check.

If they are correct then I would say it is some problem with ebay's system, as how could the scammers know what you were watching?

I have actually always been surprised at how stupid the ebay phishers are, it is like they aren't even trying. The whole "verify your information" thing just doesn't work when you get 19 of them per day, and your webmail even tells you it is a scam.

I can't believe that they aren't more active with it, phony paypal payments for ended items, with a link to a phony paypal site would have a much higher success ratio (and make ebay A LOT scarier) than the verify your info crap.

Hmmmmm
sounds like they are having issues.  I will have to check the ebay forums (which I hate).

i've been wondering about that kind of scam. in the last few weeks ive checked my email bulk folder to see if anyone inadvertantly ends up there (and one new email had) and ive twice found spam messages that have words in the title that i had been googling at about the same time. the key words were Honda and Abbey. im hoping to god it is a coincidence since as you say how could they know what im watching (or in this case, searching).

Spyware.  Bet you've got bots in your computer reporting back to the mothership.

The public computer at my work has auto updating Antivirus software, norton security software, AND Microsoft Anti- Spyware.

The sucker is LOADED with spyware and viruses. LOADED.

More spyware than viruses though, I can usually actually get rid of the viruses on it. I just don't have enough TIME to eliminate the spyware. One of them Dell specials with 128MB of Ram combined with Windows XP. The sucker takes most of one of my shifts even to run a spyware scan, much less remove anything (which it can very seldom successfully do for some reason, seems like it has processes running that protect and relaunch other processes, and that instantly reinstall anything removed.

I ran ad-aware on a friends computer the other day and got back 10223 items found.

Freaked her out, excited me cause I'm always trying to break previous records.
